How to Get Visa Sponsorship as an Adobe Experience Manager
Target enterprise employers with AEM licensing commitments
Large enterprises that have already invested in AEM licenses, typically in retail, healthcare, financial services, and media, are far more likely to sponsor H-1B visas than consulting firms or small agencies. Their AEM dependency creates long-term demand for qualified developers.
Frame your degree as a specialty occupation match
AEM developer roles qualify as specialty occupations under H-1B standards because they require a specific technical degree, not just any bachelor's. Explicitly connect your computer science, IT, or engineering degree to your AEM experience in your resume and cover letter.
Get AEM certifications to differentiate your profile
Adobe's official certifications, particularly the AEM Sites Developer and AEM Assets certifications, signal verified expertise to employers unfamiliar with evaluating international candidates. Certified candidates face less internal resistance when employers consider the cost and effort of sponsorship.
Ask directly whether a company has sponsored before
During interviews or informational conversations, ask whether the company has sponsored H-1B visas for similar AEM roles in the past. Companies with a sponsorship track record have established legal processes and are far less likely to let visa complexity derail an offer.
Highlight AEM integrations, not just implementation skills
Employers weighing sponsorship costs want senior-level impact, not entry-level execution. Lead with cross-functional AEM work, integrations with Salesforce, Marketo, or Adobe Analytics, and results like page load improvements or content velocity gains that justify the investment.

Get Access To All JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Do Adobe Experience Manager jobs typically sponsor H-1B visas?
Yes, AEM developer and architect roles at enterprise employers sponsor H-1B visas with regularity because qualified AEM talent is genuinely scarce. The platform's complexity means companies that have already deployed AEM need specialists, not generalists. Consulting firms vary more than direct employers. You can browse OPT-friendly AEM roles on Migrate Mate to identify companies with active sponsorship histories.
Does my degree qualify me for AEM jobs on OPT?
AEM developer, engineer, and architect roles almost always require a degree in computer science, information systems, software engineering, or a closely related field. That degree-to-role alignment is what makes the position a specialty occupation, which is required for H-1B eligibility later. A digital marketing or communications degree alone is unlikely to satisfy that threshold for technical AEM roles.
Am I eligible for a STEM OPT extension in an AEM role?
Yes, if your degree is in a STEM-designated field such as computer science, information technology, or software engineering, and your employer is enrolled in E-Verify, you qualify for a 24-month STEM OPT extension. That gives you up to 36 months total of work authorization, covering at least two H-1B cap lottery cycles and substantially increasing your chances of securing a visa.
What types of employers hire OPT students for AEM roles?
Enterprise companies in retail, financial services, healthcare, and media are the heaviest AEM users and the most consistent sponsors. Consulting firms that implement AEM for multiple clients, such as digital transformation practices at large IT services companies, also hire OPT students but sponsorship decisions vary by engagement model and internal policy. Startups rarely use AEM due to its enterprise licensing cost.
What AEM skills should I prioritize to strengthen my OPT job search?
Hands-on experience with AEM Sites and AEM Assets is the baseline. Employers also value Sling framework knowledge, OSGi configuration, HTL templating, and Java-based component development. Familiarity with Adobe's cloud deployment model and integrations with the broader Adobe Experience Cloud suite, including Adobe Analytics and Adobe Target, meaningfully expands your marketability and justifies sponsorship conversations.
