How to Get Visa Sponsorship in Rehabilitation Services Aide
Target employers with established OPT hiring pipelines
Large hospital systems, outpatient rehabilitation networks, and skilled nursing facilities hire OPT students regularly. Smaller private clinics may be less familiar with the process, so prioritize employers with HR departments experienced in work authorization documentation.
Clarify your OPT authorization type upfront
Be specific: standard OPT allows 12 months of full-time work, while STEM OPT extensions offer 24 additional months. Rehabilitation employers want to know your timeline before investing in onboarding and clinical training for your position.
Connect your degree field directly to the role
OPT authorization requires your job to relate to your field of study. Be ready to explain how kinesiology, exercise science, or a health-related degree directly supports the physical rehabilitation work you will perform on the floor.
Ask about E-Verify enrollment before applying
OPT employers must be E-Verify participants to hire F-1 students, especially for STEM OPT. Confirm this during the application process. Most hospital systems and large rehab networks are already enrolled, but smaller clinics sometimes are not.
Emphasize hands-on clinical experience in your application
Employers hiring rehab aides value documented patient interaction hours. Highlight any clinical practicums, volunteer hours, or internships from your program. Concrete experience reduces hesitation around sponsoring an OPT student for a patient-facing support role.
Track your OPT end date and plan your transition early
Rehabilitation employers increasingly support H-1B sponsorship for proven aides who advance to credentialed roles. Start conversations about long-term visa sponsorship well before your OPT expires so your employer has time to prepare the petition.

Get Access To All JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does a Rehabilitation Services Aide role qualify for OPT work authorization?
Yes, as long as the position is directly related to your field of study. Graduates in kinesiology, exercise science, physical therapy assistant programs, or health sciences can qualify. You will need to document the connection between your academic training and your day-to-day patient support duties to satisfy OPT requirements.
Can I work as a Rehabilitation Services Aide on STEM OPT?
STEM OPT applies if your degree is on the STEM Designated Degree Program List and your employer is E-Verify enrolled. Health informatics, kinesiology, and some exercise science degrees qualify. Standard rehabilitation aide roles without a STEM-eligible degree fall under regular 12-month OPT. Confirm your degree's STEM eligibility with your DSO before applying.
Where can I find Rehabilitation Services Aide jobs that accept OPT students?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for F-1 OPT and international students, so every listing on the platform is filtered for visa-friendly employers. Searching there saves significant time compared to manually screening postings for E-Verify enrollment and OPT acceptance, which most general job boards do not surface clearly.
Do Rehabilitation Services Aide employers commonly sponsor H-1B visas after OPT?
It varies by employer size and role trajectory. Large hospital systems and national rehabilitation networks are more likely to sponsor H-1B petitions, particularly when an aide has progressed toward a licensed role such as physical therapist assistant. Smaller outpatient clinics less frequently have the HR infrastructure to manage visa petitions independently.
What documents does a Rehabilitation Services Aide employer need from me as an OPT student?
You will need to provide your valid F-1 visa, current I-20 with OPT authorization noted, and your Employment Authorization Document. Employers must also complete Form I-9 and verify your EAD. For STEM OPT, your employer must also sign a formal training plan on Form I-983 outlining your learning objectives in the role.
