Overview
We are seeking a skilled Welder/Fabricator to join our manufacturing team. In this role, you will fabricate high-end metal details, complex weldments, and architectural facade products. This is a custom manufacturing environment, not a repetitive assembly line. You will work from blueprints and engineering drawings, weld a variety of materials—specifically Steel, Aluminum, and Stainless—and ensure every piece meets rigorous aesthetic and structural standards. We are looking for hands-on builders who bring a strong work ethic to the floor and enjoy the challenge of creating visible, high-impact work.
Profiles encouraged to apply include: experienced metal fabricators, custom job-shop welders, structural fitters, architectural metalworkers, and detail-oriented tradespeople who enjoy the challenge of working with different metals and complex geometries.

Shift
- 1st and 2nd shift
- 11 hour shifts
- Monday - Thursday
Benefits:
- Health, vision, dental
- 401(k) + match

Responsibilities
- Execute Precision MIG & TIG Welding – Perform high-quality MIG and TIG welding on Aluminum, Stainless Steel, and Carbon Steel. You must be able to adapt to a variety of thicknesses and positions to meet the visual and structural requirements of architectural work.
- Fabricate Architectural Metals & Facades – Interpret engineering drawings, weld symbols, bills of materials, and diagrams to accurately layout, fit, and fabricate complex architectural weldments and facade components.
- Ensure High-End Finish Quality – Because much of our work is visible (architectural), you must produce clean welds and utilize grinders/finish tools to meet strict aesthetic specifications.
- Operate Fabrication Tools and Equipment – Utilize handheld tools (grinders, weld stud guns) and heavy machinery (forklifts, overhead cranes) to manipulate large metal components safely and efficiently.
- Perform In-Process Quality Inspections – Use calipers, weld gauges, tape measures, and other precision tools to verify geometric accuracy; identify defects early and rework as needed to meet specifications.
- Maintain Equipment and Work Area – Perform preventative maintenance on weld machines, create specific setups/fixtures for unique builds, and keep the workspace clean and safe.
- Model Professional Shop Behavior – Work effectively in a team environment, respect all teammates, and demonstrate self-motivation and high attention to detail.

High School Diploma or GED
3-5 years of experience as a metal fabricator
Strong proficiency in MIG and TIG welding (must have experience with Steel, Aluminum, and Stainless)
Ability to read and interpret blueprints, weld symbols, and technical instructions
Physical ability to lift 30-50 lbs regularly and perform repetitive tasks/manual dexterity work

- Health insurance
- 401(k) matching
- Paid time off
- Vision insurance
- Dental insurance

How to Get Visa Sponsorship in Welder Fitter
Target industries with chronic skilled trades shortages
Shipbuilding, aerospace manufacturing, and oil and gas have persistent Welder Fitter shortages. Employers in these sectors are more accustomed to sponsoring work authorization because domestic talent pipelines consistently fall short of demand.
Prioritize employers already filing H-2B or H-1B petitions
Companies that file other work visa petitions have immigration infrastructure in place. They understand authorization timelines and are less likely to abandon a hire over paperwork concerns. Check OFLC disclosure data to identify these employers.
Get your AWS certifications before applying
American Welding Society certifications like SMAW, GMAW, or GTAW signal immediate job readiness to U.S. employers. Certified candidates face less hesitation around OPT status because the employer sees reduced training risk and faster productive contribution.
Negotiate your start date around your EAD receipt
You cannot legally begin work until your EAD card arrives. When negotiating offers, build in buffer time between signing and your start date. Most employers will accommodate two to four weeks if you explain the federal authorization requirement clearly.
Document your welding qualifications in U.S. standard formats
International welding credentials need translation into U.S. equivalents. Research AWS qualification equivalencies and get a credential evaluation if needed. Employers unfamiliar with foreign certifications will default to concern, and removing that ambiguity speeds up hiring decisions.

Get Access To All JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Can I work as a Welder Fitter on F-1 OPT?
Yes. Welder Fitter roles are generally permissible under F-1 OPT as long as the position is related to your field of study, such as mechanical engineering technology, manufacturing, or a related vocational or technical program. Your EAD card authorizes the work. You do not need the employer to file any additional petition during your OPT period, which makes the hiring process straightforward compared to H-1B sponsorship.
Does a Welder Fitter job qualify for the STEM OPT extension?
It depends on your degree, not your job title. STEM OPT eligibility is determined by whether your degree appears on the DHS STEM Designated Degree Program List, not by the role itself. Programs like mechanical engineering technology, manufacturing engineering, or materials science commonly qualify. If your degree is on the list and your employer is E-Verify enrolled, you can apply for the 24-month STEM OPT extension before your standard OPT expires.
Will employers hesitate to hire Welder Fitters on OPT?
Some will, but the hesitation is usually based on misunderstanding OPT as equivalent to H-1B sponsorship. OPT requires no petition, no attorney, and no government approval from the employer's side. Skilled trades sectors like shipbuilding and aerospace are generally more familiar with international workers and raise fewer objections. Browse Migrate Mate to find Welder Fitter employers that actively hire F-1 OPT candidates and have immigration experience.
What happens to my OPT status if I'm laid off from a Welder Fitter role?
You have a 90-day unemployment buffer during your OPT period. Days of unemployment accumulate across your entire OPT authorization, not just between jobs. If you exceed 90 cumulative days without authorized employment, you fall out of valid F-1 status. Notify your DSO immediately if you lose a role and begin your next job search right away to protect your remaining authorized time.
Do I need to report a new Welder Fitter job to my school's DSO?
Yes. Any new employer must be reported to your Designated School Official, who updates your SEVIS record with the employer name, address, and start date. You are required to report this within 10 days of starting. Failure to update SEVIS is one of the most common OPT compliance violations and can jeopardize your status even when your EAD is still valid.
