Which transportation companies in Illinois sponsor F-1 CPT visas?
Chicago-based employers with track records of hiring international students in transportation include Echo Global Logistics, Coyote Logistics, United Airlines, and Union Pacific. Large third-party logistics firms and freight brokerages in the Chicago metro tend to hire CPT students in data analysis, operations, and supply chain roles. Sponsorship availability varies by role and semester, so confirming CPT eligibility directly with each employer's HR team is essential.
Which cities in Illinois have the most transportation F-1 CPT sponsorship jobs?
Chicago accounts for the vast majority of transportation CPT opportunities in Illinois, given its status as a major rail, air freight, and trucking hub. The surrounding suburbs, including Schaumburg, Itasca, and Oak Brook, host regional headquarters for logistics and freight companies that recruit from nearby universities. Smaller Illinois cities like Peoria and Rockford have limited transportation CPT openings compared to the Chicago metro.
What types of transportation roles typically qualify for F-1 CPT sponsorship in Illinois?
Roles that align with business, supply chain, data analytics, or engineering degree programs are most commonly approved for CPT. In Illinois transportation, this typically includes supply chain analyst, logistics coordinator, operations intern, freight data analyst, and transportation planning roles. CPT authorization requires a direct connection between the job duties and your enrolled degree program, so roles with clearly defined analytical or operational functions tend to qualify more reliably than general administrative positions.
How do I find transportation F-1 CPT sponsorship jobs in Illinois?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa type, including F-1 CPT, and by industry and state, so you can browse transportation roles in Illinois without sorting through positions that don't support CPT. This saves significant time compared to searching general job boards where sponsorship information is often missing or unclear. Migrate Mate also surfaces employers with documented international student hiring history in transportation and logistics.
Are there any Illinois-specific considerations for F-1 CPT in transportation?
Illinois universities near Chicago, including the University of Illinois Chicago, Northwestern, and DePaul, have established relationships with transportation and logistics employers in the metro area, which can ease the CPT authorization process. Your DSO must authorize CPT before you begin work, and the role must be an integral part of your curriculum. Illinois has no state-level work authorization requirements beyond federal F-1 CPT rules, but large employers in regulated transportation sectors may have additional onboarding compliance steps.
