Which healthcare companies sponsor H-1B1 visas in Illinois?
Illinois's largest health systems are among the most active H-1B1 sponsors in the state. Northwestern Medicine, Rush University Medical Center, University of Chicago Medicine, Advocate Health Care, and NorthShore University HealthSystem have all filed H-1B1 petitions for healthcare roles. Academic medical centers and large hospital networks tend to have dedicated immigration support teams, making them more experienced with the sponsorship process than smaller clinics or private practices.
Which cities in Illinois have the most healthcare H-1B1 sponsorship jobs?
Chicago and its surrounding suburbs, including Evanston, Oak Park, and Naperville, account for the vast majority of healthcare H-1B1 sponsorship activity in Illinois. The city's concentration of academic medical centers, specialty hospitals, and large health networks drives this. Outside the metro, Peoria and Rockford have notable healthcare employers, including OSF HealthCare and Mercyhealth, that have sponsored international professionals.
What types of healthcare roles typically qualify for H-1B1 sponsorship in Illinois?
Roles that require at least a bachelor's degree in a specific professional field qualify as specialty occupations under H-1B1. In Illinois healthcare, this commonly includes physicians, pharmacists, physical therapists, occupational therapists, medical laboratory scientists, clinical dietitians, genetic counselors, and health informatics specialists. Registered nurses generally do not qualify unless the position requires a specialized advanced degree. The degree must correspond directly to the duties of the role.
How do I find healthcare H-1B1 sponsorship jobs in Illinois?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international professionals searching for visa-sponsored roles, including healthcare H-1B1 positions in Illinois. You can filter by visa type, state, and industry to see current listings from employers who have a documented history of sponsoring H-1B1 workers. This saves significant time compared to manually reviewing job postings that rarely disclose sponsorship availability upfront.
Are there any Illinois-specific considerations for H-1B1 healthcare sponsorship?
Illinois does not add state-level immigration requirements on top of federal H-1B1 rules, but healthcare professionals must still meet Illinois state licensure requirements independently of the visa process. Licensing timelines for roles like physicians, pharmacists, and physical therapists can take several months and should be started early. Some Illinois health systems also require credentialing through their medical staff office, which runs on its own timeline and is separate from USCIS petition approval.
What is the prevailing wage for H-1B1 healthcare jobs in Illinois?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
