Which investment management companies in Illinois sponsor H-1B1 visas?
Chicago-based firms with histories of H-1B1 sponsorship in investment management include Northern Trust, Morningstar, Citadel, Nuveen, and Baird. Larger asset managers and institutional investment firms in the Loop and Fulton Market districts tend to have dedicated immigration support infrastructure, making them more likely to navigate the H-1B1 process for qualified international candidates than smaller boutique firms.
Which cities in Illinois have the most investment management H-1B1 sponsorship jobs?
Chicago accounts for the overwhelming majority of investment management H-1B1 roles in Illinois. The Loop, Fulton Market, and River North neighborhoods concentrate most asset managers, hedge funds, and wealth management firms. Suburban areas like Deerfield and Oak Brook host some financial services employers, but candidates targeting H-1B1 sponsorship will find significantly more opportunities within the city.
What types of investment management roles typically qualify for H-1B1 sponsorship?
Roles that typically qualify are those requiring a specific bachelor's degree or higher in a directly related field. In investment management, this includes portfolio analyst, quantitative researcher, risk analyst, fixed income analyst, and investment research associate positions. Roles requiring degrees in finance, economics, mathematics, or financial engineering tend to meet the specialty occupation standard more clearly than generalist positions.
How do I find investment management H-1B1 sponsorship jobs in Illinois?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international job seekers and lets you filter investment management roles by visa type, including H-1B1, and by state, so you can surface Illinois-based positions from employers with documented sponsorship activity. Because H-1B1 sponsorship requires employer initiation, focusing your search on firms with prior sponsorship history, as shown on Migrate Mate, is a practical starting point.
Are there any Illinois-specific considerations for H-1B1 sponsorship in investment management?
Illinois has no state-level visa requirements, but Chicago's investment management sector is heavily regulated at the federal level through the SEC and FINRA. Some roles require licenses such as the Series 7 or CFA designation, which are separate from visa eligibility. Employers in Illinois must still file a Labor Condition Application with the Department of Labor before submitting an H-1B1 petition, regardless of industry.
What is the prevailing wage for H-1B1 investment management jobs in Illinois?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
