Which technology companies sponsor H-1B1 visas in Illinois?
Illinois has a broad base of technology employers with H-1B1 sponsorship history, including Motorola Solutions, Allstate, Discover Financial Services, Uptake Technologies, and a range of enterprise software and consulting firms headquartered in the Chicago metro. Large employers in financial technology and healthcare IT have also been consistent H-1B1 sponsors in the state. Sponsorship willingness varies by company size, hiring volume, and role specificity, so verifying sponsorship directly with each employer is important.
Which cities in Illinois have the most technology H-1B1 sponsorship jobs?
Chicago accounts for the majority of technology H-1B1 sponsorship activity in Illinois, particularly in the West Loop, River North, and Fulton Market neighborhoods where many tech and fintech companies are concentrated. The suburban corridor along I-88, including Schaumburg, Naperville, Lisle, and Downers Grove, also hosts significant technology employers. Smaller pockets of tech hiring exist in Peoria and Champaign, often tied to university-adjacent research and software companies.
What types of technology roles typically qualify for H-1B1 sponsorship in Illinois?
Roles that qualify for H-1B1 sponsorship must meet the specialty occupation standard, meaning they require at least a bachelor's degree in a directly related field. In Illinois technology hiring, qualifying roles commonly include software engineers, data scientists, cloud architects, cybersecurity analysts, systems analysts, and DevOps engineers. Roles where any general degree satisfies the requirement, regardless of field, are less likely to qualify. Employers filing Labor Condition Applications with the Department of Labor must specify the degree requirement for each position.
How do I find technology H-1B1 sponsorship jobs in Illinois?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international candidates searching for visa sponsorship roles, including H-1B1 technology jobs in Illinois. You can filter directly by visa type and state to see employers actively hiring for sponsored positions in software, data, and IT. Because H-1B1 eligibility is limited to nationals of Singapore and Chile, filtering by visa type on Migrate Mate helps narrow results to employers familiar with this specific visa category rather than applying broadly to H-1B postings.
Are there any state-specific or industry-specific considerations for H-1B1 sponsorship in Illinois?
Illinois does not impose state-level restrictions on H-1B1 sponsorship beyond standard federal requirements, but Chicago's competitive technology hiring market means employers often move quickly through the LCA and petition process. Illinois has a large financial technology sector where certain compliance and data roles require very specific degree alignment, which can affect H-1B1 eligibility determinations. Employers in Illinois's regulated industries, including insurance and healthcare IT, tend to have established immigration counsel experienced with specialty occupation documentation.
What is the prevailing wage for H-1B1 technology jobs in Illinois?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
