Which transportation companies sponsor F-1 CPT visas in Michigan?
Michigan-based transportation employers with established internship programs include General Motors' logistics division, Penske Transportation Solutions (headquartered in Bloomfield Hills), and XPO Logistics, which operates distribution centers across the state. Smaller regional carriers and third-party logistics providers along the Detroit-to-Chicago freight corridor also regularly hire F-1 CPT students for operations and supply chain roles through university partnerships.
Which cities in Michigan have the most transportation F-1 CPT sponsorship jobs?
Detroit and its suburbs, particularly Bloomfield Hills, Auburn Hills, and Dearborn, concentrate the highest number of transportation and logistics internship opportunities given the automotive supply chain presence. Grand Rapids is a secondary hub, with freight and distribution activity tied to West Michigan manufacturing. Lansing and Ann Arbor also see placements, often connected to university-affiliated logistics research programs.
What types of transportation roles typically qualify for F-1 CPT sponsorship?
F-1 CPT applies to roles directly related to a student's field of study, so qualifying transportation positions typically include supply chain analysis, logistics operations, transportation planning, fleet data analytics, and freight network optimization. Roles requiring only a commercial driver's license without an academic component generally do not qualify. Employers hosting CPT students usually structure the role as part of a formal degree requirement or cooperative education program.
How do I find transportation F-1 CPT sponsorship jobs in Michigan?
Migrate Mate lists transportation positions in Michigan that are open to F-1 CPT candidates, filtered by visa type and industry so you are not sorting through roles that require different authorization. Search the Transportation and Logistics category, set the location to Michigan, and filter by F-1 CPT to see current openings. Confirming CPT eligibility with your Designated School Official before applying is always recommended.
Are there any Michigan-specific considerations for F-1 CPT in the transportation industry?
Michigan's transportation sector is closely tied to automotive manufacturing, so many CPT placements involve supply chain or logistics functions within that ecosystem rather than traditional freight or passenger transit. Some roles require background checks or facility access clearances, which can add lead time before a start date. Students should ensure their CPT authorization period aligns with the employer's intended start date, as late authorization cannot be applied retroactively.
