Which consumer goods companies in Michigan sponsor H-1B1 visas?
Michigan-based consumer goods employers with a history of H-1B sponsorship include Whirlpool Corporation in Benton Harbor, Kellogg's in Battle Creek, and Masco Corporation in Livonia. Post Consumer Brands and Perrigo also operate in the state. H-1B1 sponsorship specifically applies to Chilean and Singaporean nationals, so confirm each employer is familiar with that visa category before applying.
Which cities in Michigan have the most consumer goods H-1B1 sponsorship jobs?
Grand Rapids and the Detroit metro area, including Livonia, Dearborn, and Troy, have the highest concentration of consumer goods employers in Michigan. Battle Creek is a significant hub for food and packaged goods companies. Kalamazoo and Benton Harbor also host major manufacturers. Most sponsored roles in these cities sit within corporate headquarters or regional operations centers rather than production facilities.
What types of consumer goods roles typically qualify for H-1B1 sponsorship in Michigan?
Roles that typically qualify require at least a bachelor's degree in a specific field directly related to the position. In consumer goods, this includes supply chain analysts, food scientists, product development engineers, brand managers with marketing degrees, and data analysts. General operations or entry-level sales roles often do not meet the specialty occupation standard required for H-1B1 classification.
How do I find consumer goods H-1B1 sponsorship jobs in Michigan?
Migrate Mate lists consumer goods positions in Michigan from employers with a documented history of H-1B sponsorship, which is a useful proxy for H-1B1 willingness since the underlying petition process is similar. Filter by state and industry to see roles in food, household products, and personal care. Because H-1B1 is less commonly understood by HR teams, using Migrate Mate helps you focus on employers already comfortable with specialty occupation sponsorship.
Are there any Michigan-specific or industry-specific considerations for H-1B1 sponsorship in consumer goods?
Michigan's consumer goods sector is heavily manufacturing-oriented, which means many available roles are tied to production operations rather than the professional or specialty functions that qualify for H-1B1. Employers in the state are generally more experienced with H-1B petitions than H-1B1, so applicants from Chile or Singapore may need to clarify the visa category during the offer stage. Working with an immigration attorney familiar with the H-1B1 process is advisable.
What is the prevailing wage for H-1B1 consumer goods jobs in Michigan?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
