SUMMARY
THESE POSITIONS ARE FOR HARVEST SIDE OF THE FACILITY
The FSQA NSIS Post-mortem Sorter conducts post-mortem carcass sorting activities and identifies any condemnable conditions or defects before carcasses are presented to online USDA/FSIS inspectors. FSQA NSIS Post-mortem sorters must incise mandibular lymph nodes and palpate the viscera to detect the presence of animal diseases as part of their sorting activities.
FSQA NSIS Post-mortem sorters work with USDA/FSIS and Tyson Fresh Meats Operations team members to address any issues that may arise concerning the identification and sorting of carcasses in accordance with current regulations, applicable guidelines and training.
REQUIREMENTS
Education:
High School Graduate or equivalent preferred. College or technical school a plus.
Experience:
Minimum of 1-year experience in the fresh meats industry preferred, or other FSQA type experience or relevant education.
Communication Skills:
Must be able to communicate effectively in all areas of communication: verbal, written, and reading. Some examples, but not all inclusive are: giving verbal feedback to supervisors, other departments, and co-workers; compiling paperwork at the end of the day.
Computer Skills:
Basic
Position Involves:
- Frequent physical activities such as walking, climbing, standing and kneeling are required, including climbing stairs, ladders and walking on catwalks.
- Job responsibilities will require the use of knife and/or hook.
- Job responsibilities may require extended hours (10 hours or more).
- Job could involve heavy lifting (50 lbs. or more).
- Work in a hot (80 – 100o F) and humid environment.

NSIS – New Swine Inspection System
Post-Mortem – Harvest activities that are conducted after the hog has been euthanized and prepared for evisceration.
Mandibular - Refers to the mandible (lower jaw bone).
Lymph Node - Lymph nodes are small glands that filter lymph, the clear fluid that circulates through the lymphatic system. They may become swollen in response to infection and tumors.
Palpate - Examine by touch.
Viscera - The internal organs of the body, specifically those within the chest (as the heart or lungs) or abdomen (as the liver, pancreas or intestines).
USDA/FSIS - The Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS), an agency of the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), is the public health regulatory agency responsible for ensuring that United States' commercial supply of meat, poultry, and egg products is safe, wholesome, and correctly labeled and packaged.
