INTRODUCTION
At REGENT, we’re on a mission to revolutionize regional transportation between coastal cities. We're not just building vehicles, we're creating a new category of transportation: the seaglider. These groundbreaking wing-in-ground-effect craft travel just above the water’s surface, combining the speed of an airplane with the low operating costs of a boat. Capable of 180 miles at 180 mph on today's battery tech (and up to 400 miles with next-gen batteries), seagliders will unlock fast, affordable, and sustainable coastal transit for passengers and cargo - connecting cities, islands, and communities like never before.
Backed by leading investors and powered by a team of passionate, forward-thinking engineers, builders, and operators, we’re now scaling from a breakthrough prototype to full production - and building the team to make it happen.
ABOUT THE ROLE
We are seeking a Senior Modeling and Simulation Engineer to build and own the simulation environments that underpin seaglider design, controls/autonomy development, software integration, and training. You will develop and maintain vehicle, environment, sensor, and actuator models and integrate them into a coherent, versioned simulation stack. This stack will be used across the company for design decisions, regression testing, and rehearsals. The role blends deep MATLAB/Simulink and physics-based modeling with strong software engineering, validation discipline, and a focus on reliable, repeatable infrastructure.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Lead the design, development, and maintenance of simulation environments that enable multiple engineers to collaborate seamlessly, working in parallel and integrating subsystems.
- Develop and fine-tune simulation models using MATLAB/Simulink to ensure they precisely represent the behavior of complex systems.
- Work closely with cross-disciplinary teams to integrate real-world system and vehicle dynamics data into the simulation environment, enhancing its accuracy and effectiveness.
- Run and refine testing cycles such as software-in-the-loop, processor-in-the-loop, and hardware-in-the-loop to validate models and simulation environments.
- Analyze sea trial test data and leverage it to fine-tune and improve model accuracy and system reliability.
- Ensure that the simulation environment is scalable, robust, and ready to handle large, complex simulations with ease.
- Keep up with the latest trends and technologies in modeling and simulation, and bring fresh ideas and techniques to continually elevate the simulation environment.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
- Proven experience in software engineering, computer science, or a related field
- Demonstrated success and professional experience in modeling and simulation, especially with MATLAB/Simulink integration and testing
- Expertise in using MATLAB/Simulink and the MathWorks toolchain, with some experience in C/C++
- Hands-on experience designing and building simulation environments that enable collaboration across multiple engineers working on different subsystems.
- A collaborative mindset, with experience integrating physical system and vehicle dynamics data into simulations across disciplines.
- Proven ability to validate models against real-world test data and refine them to enhance performance.
- Demonstrated experience with software-in-the-loop, processor-in-the-loop, and hardware-in-the-loop testing (or a desire to learn quickly on the job).
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bonus points: Experience with simulation tools for DO-178C verification and validation (if you’re familiar, we’d love to hear about it).
WHO WE'RE LOOKING FOR
- Collaborative Team Player: You believe that great things happen when teams work together. You communicate effectively and collaborate with engineers, stakeholders, and other cross-functional teams to align on goals and move projects forward. You bring people together, ensuring that everyone is on the same page and moving towards a shared vision.
- Creative Problem Solver: You thrive on tackling complex challenges and finding innovative solutions. Whether it’s optimizing data pipelines, solving integration hurdles, or improving automation workflows, you approach every problem with creativity and determination. You’re able to address immediate needs while also planning for future scalability and efficiency.
- Adaptable & Agile: In a fast-paced, ever-evolving startup environment, you quickly adapt to changing priorities and requirements. You approach challenges with a calm, resilient mindset, and know how to pivot and adjust your approach as needed, ensuring that progress continues without missing a beat.
- Innovative Mindset: You’re driven by curiosity and a passion for technology. You’re passionate about driving continuous improvement, embracing new technologies and methodologies to enhance efficiency, quality, and team performance.
WHAT WE OFFER
- Competitive compensation including a robust equity incentive plan.
- Comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance - we cover 100% of your premiums.
- 401(k) with company matching, so you can plan for the future.
- Generous flexible time off, paid parental leave, and company-wide holiday breaks.
- Relocation packages available for those moving to join our team.
- Daily, free catered lunches.
- Learning & professional development opportunities.
If you’re ready to take on an exciting challenge, grow with us, and make a lasting impact, we want to hear from you. Even if you don’t meet every requirement, but you see yourself contributing to our mission, we encourage you to apply! We value diverse skillsets and experiences and believe in the potential of passionate individuals to make a big impact.

Which aerospace & defense companies sponsor visas in Rhode Island?
Major sponsors include Raytheon Technologies in Portsmouth, General Dynamics Electric Boat in Quonset Point, Textron Systems in Hunt Valley, and L3Harris Technologies in Newport. Naval Station Newport also supports contractor positions requiring security clearances. Many of these companies have historical sponsorship patterns for engineering and specialized technical roles.
How to find aerospace & defense visa sponsorship jobs in Rhode Island?
Migrate Mate specializes in connecting international professionals with visa sponsorship opportunities in Rhode Island's aerospace & defense sector. Focus on defense contractors with federal contracts, as they often have established sponsorship processes. Target roles in systems engineering, cybersecurity, and naval architecture where specialized skills justify sponsorship costs.
Which visa types are most common for aerospace & defense roles in Rhode Island?
H-1B visas dominate for engineering positions, particularly systems engineers, software developers, and cybersecurity specialists. O-1 visas occasionally apply for researchers with extraordinary ability in defense technologies. L-1 visas are used when international defense contractors transfer employees to Rhode Island operations. Security clearance requirements can complicate sponsorship timing.
Which cities in Rhode Island have the most aerospace & defense sponsorship jobs?
Newport leads due to Naval Station Newport and surrounding defense contractors. Providence offers opportunities with Textron and smaller defense technology firms. Warwick hosts aerospace manufacturing roles, while Quonset Point features General Dynamics Electric Boat operations. Portsmouth rounds out the major locations with Raytheon facilities.
What makes Rhode Island's aerospace & defense market unique for visa sponsorship?
Rhode Island's maritime defense focus creates demand for naval engineering and underwater systems expertise. The state's compact size means most opportunities require security clearance eligibility, which can delay sponsorship timelines. University of Rhode Island partnerships provide pathways from F-1 to H-1B status for engineering graduates entering defense careers.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored aerospace & defense jobs in Rhode Island?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
