Which gaming and esports companies sponsor H-1B1 visas in California?
California-based studios and publishers with a history of H-1B sponsorship activity include Activision Blizzard in Santa Monica, Riot Games in Los Angeles, Electronic Arts in Redwood City, and Twitch in San Francisco. Because H-1B1 sponsorship follows the same employer-filing process as the H-1B, companies already familiar with H-1B petitions are generally better positioned to sponsor H-1B1 applicants. Sponsorship is never guaranteed and depends on the specific role and company policy.
Which cities in California have the most gaming and esports H-1B1 sponsorship jobs?
Los Angeles accounts for the largest concentration of gaming and esports employers in California, with a dense cluster of studios, publishers, and esports organizations in the greater LA area. The San Francisco Bay Area follows closely, particularly for gaming-adjacent technology and live-streaming companies. San Diego has a notable presence as well, home to studios including Blizzard Entertainment's second campus and several mid-size developers.
What types of gaming and esports roles typically qualify for H-1B1 sponsorship?
Roles that typically qualify for H-1B1 sponsorship are those classified as specialty occupations, meaning they require at least a bachelor's degree in a specific related field. In gaming and esports, this commonly includes software engineers, game programmers, technical artists with relevant computer science or fine arts degrees, data analysts, and product managers. Roles in broadcast production, event operations, or general business functions may qualify depending on degree requirements, but employers assess each position individually.
How do I find gaming and esports H-1B1 sponsorship jobs in California?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international job seekers who need visa sponsorship, including H-1B1 roles in gaming and esports in California. You can filter by visa type and industry to surface employers actively open to H-1B1 candidates, rather than sifting through general job listings that rarely disclose sponsorship intent. Given that H-1B1 eligibility is limited to Chilean and Singaporean nationals, targeting employers already familiar with H-1B processes improves your chances of finding a compatible match.
Are there any state-specific or industry-specific considerations for H-1B1 sponsorship in California's gaming sector?
California's strong worker protection laws, including restrictions on non-compete agreements, can make it more attractive for international candidates to consider job changes without long-term contractual barriers. Within the gaming industry, California employers also tend to hire internationally at higher rates due to the specialized technical talent required. That said, H-1B1 sponsorship still requires the employer to file a Labor Condition Application with the Department of Labor and submit a petition to USCIS, regardless of state.
What is the prevailing wage for H-1B1 gaming & esports jobs in California?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
