Which healthcare companies sponsor H-1B1 visas in California?
Large integrated health systems are among the most active H-1B1 sponsors in California. Kaiser Permanente, Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, UCLA Health, UCSF Health, and Dignity Health have all filed H-1B1 Labor Condition Applications for healthcare roles. Academic medical centers affiliated with UC campuses are particularly notable because they sponsor across a wide range of clinical and research specialties.
Which cities in California have the most healthcare H-1B1 sponsorship jobs?
The Los Angeles metro leads in volume, driven by its concentration of hospital networks, specialty clinics, and medical schools. The San Francisco Bay Area follows closely, with UCSF and Stanford Health Care anchoring demand in clinical and research roles. San Diego has a growing presence through UC San Diego Health and the city's expanding life sciences and hospital sector.
What types of healthcare roles typically qualify for H-1B1 sponsorship?
H-1B1 sponsorship in healthcare is limited to specialty occupations requiring at least a bachelor's degree in a specific field. Roles that commonly qualify include physicians, surgeons, clinical researchers, physical therapists, occupational therapists, medical scientists, and healthcare data analysts. General nursing positions typically do not qualify because they do not meet the specialty occupation standard under USCIS guidelines.
How do I find healthcare H-1B1 sponsorship jobs in California?
Migrate Mate lists healthcare jobs in California from employers with a documented history of H-1B1 sponsorship, filtering out roles where visa support is unlikely. You can search by state, visa type, and industry to surface relevant positions across hospital systems, research institutions, and specialty clinics. This saves significant time compared to applying broadly and discovering sponsorship availability only late in the process.
Are there California-specific considerations for H-1B1 healthcare sponsorship?
California's medical licensing requirements add a layer of preparation beyond the federal visa process. Foreign-trained physicians, for example, must obtain a California Medical Board license before practicing, which involves separate documentation and timelines independent of USCIS approval. Additionally, California's high cost of living means employers in competitive markets like San Francisco and Los Angeles tend to be larger institutions with established immigration compliance infrastructure.
What is the prevailing wage for H-1B1 healthcare jobs in California?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
