Which aerospace and defense companies sponsor F-1 CPT visas in Florida?
Florida's aerospace and defense sector includes employers with established CPT internship histories, particularly along the Space Coast. L3Harris Technologies is headquartered in Melbourne, Florida, and has regularly hosted international student interns. Lockheed Martin, Boeing, Northrop Grumman, and Raytheon also maintain Florida operations and have participated in university-affiliated CPT programs, though sponsorship availability varies by program, semester, and hiring cycle.
Which cities in Florida have the most aerospace and defense F-1 CPT sponsorship jobs?
The Space Coast corridor, centered on Melbourne, Titusville, and Cocoa Beach near Kennedy Space Center, concentrates the highest density of aerospace and defense CPT opportunities in Florida. Orlando supports defense simulation, modeling, and defense IT roles. Tampa and St. Petersburg host defense contractors tied to MacDill Air Force Base. Gainesville and Daytona Beach also see CPT activity connected to nearby aviation and engineering university programs.
What types of aerospace and defense roles typically qualify for F-1 CPT sponsorship?
CPT eligibility requires the role to be an integral part of your degree program, so qualifying positions are typically in fields directly tied to your major. Common qualifying roles in aerospace and defense include systems engineering, aerospace engineering, electrical engineering, software development for defense applications, avionics testing, propulsion research, and data analytics. Roles in quality assurance, systems integration, and mission systems have also appeared in university-approved CPT placements at Florida-based employers.
How do I find aerospace and defense F-1 CPT sponsorship jobs in Florida?
Migrate Mate lets you filter specifically for aerospace and defense positions in Florida that are open to F-1 CPT candidates, saving significant research time compared to manually sorting through general job boards. Beyond the platform, connect with your university's career services office early, since CPT requires academic authorization before you start work. Florida employers with active campus recruiting relationships at schools like Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and University of Florida are worth prioritizing.
Are there any Florida-specific or industry-specific considerations for F-1 CPT in aerospace and defense?
Security clearance requirements are a significant industry-specific factor. Many defense roles in Florida require U.S. citizenship or permanent residency for clearance eligibility, which can limit F-1 CPT access to unclassified or commercial aerospace work. Export control regulations, specifically ITAR, may also restrict international student participation on certain defense programs. Always confirm with the employer and your Designated School Official that a specific role is eligible for CPT authorization before accepting any offer.
