SUMMARY
General Excavating is an award-winning contractor serving public and private owners throughout Nebraska, South Dakota and Wyoming. General Excavating specializes in the construction of underground utilities, natural gas distribution, environmental remediation, excavation shoring, directional drilling, hydro-excavation, and heavy civil including bridge and concrete structures.
General Excavating is searching for a highly motivated House Piper. We are seeking an experienced House Piper to install and connect natural gas piping systems for residential and commercial properties. The ideal candidate will have expertise in natural gas service line installation, pipefitting, and pressure testing while adhering to industry safety standards and regulations. The ideal candidate will have experience with gas distribution systems, a strong attention to detail, and a commitment to safety.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned:
- Install and connect natural gas piping from the service line to residential and commercial structures.
- Read and interpret work orders and project specifications to determine proper pipe layouts.
- Move gas meters located inside homes and relocate them outside, ensuring proper reconnection to the gas system.
- Measure, cut, thread, and assemble pipes using hand and power tools.
- Secure pipes to walls, ceilings, and fixtures using brackets, clamps, and hangers.
- Perform pressure tests on piping systems to ensure there are no leaks before activation.
- Adhere to all local, state, and federal regulations, including safety and environmental standards.
- Relight gas appliances (e.g., furnaces, water heaters, stoves) following meter move-outs and reactivation of gas systems to ensure proper functionality and safety.
- Work closely with inspectors, utility companies, and project managers to ensure compliance with installation standards.
- Troubleshoot and repair gas piping issues when necessary.
- Maintain a respectful, courteous, and professional demeanor when interacting with residents in their homes during meter move-outs and related activities.
- Maintain a clean and safe worksite, following OSHA and company safety protocols.
QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum of 2-5 Years of experience as a House Piper.
CERTIFICATES AND LICENSING
- Must have a valid driver's license with clean driving record.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume and distance. Ability to read a tape measure and convert inches into tenths.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving multiple variables in standardized situations.
