About Redwood Materials
Redwood is localizing a global battery supply chain that seamlessly integrates recovery, reuse, and recycling — keeping critical minerals in circulation and driving the energy transition. Founded in 2017, we're delivering low-cost and large-scale energy storage and producing battery materials in the U.S. for the first time, all from batteries we already have.
Essential Duties:
The Energy Economics Intern will support Redwood Energy's Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) project pipeline across two primary workstreams. The first involves advancing projects through the development pipeline. This involves tracking milestones and coordinating with developers, landowners, permitting agencies, utilities, and engineering consultants to keep projects moving toward construction-ready status. The second involves building internal software tools to support project tracking, sales and sales engineering workflows, and the transition of projects from development into market participation — including ERCOT registration, Qualified Scheduling Entity (QSE) onboarding, commissioning testing, and initial market bidding. This role sits at the intersection of project management and software development and is well-suited for someone comfortable toggling between stakeholder coordination and technical problem-solving. This is a Summer 2026 position.
Responsibilities Will Include:
- Track and advance utility-scale BESS projects through the development pipeline, coordinating with landowners, developers, permitting agencies, utilities, and engineering consultants to maintain schedule and resolve open items
- Support due diligence and project evaluation processes, including data room review, site visit preparation, technical screening, and preparation of summary materials for internal review
- Maintain project tracking systems, and development milestone schedules across the active project portfolio
- Develop sales and sales engineering tools to support commercial pipeline management, project sizing, and customer-facing technical documentation
- Build tooling to support the transition of projects from development into ERCOT market participation, including workflows for QSE onboarding, ERCOT registration, commissioning testing coordination, and initial bid/offer setup
Desired Qualifications:
- Currently pursuing a degree in Engineering, Finance, Economics, Environmental Science, or a related field (Graduate student preferred)
- Proficiency in Python, JavaScript, or similar programming languages, with experience building scripts, tools, or applications
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to synthesize complex information into clear summaries for internal and external audiences
- Familiarity with electricity markets, grid operations, Investment Tax Credit (ITC) structuring and related incentive programs
- Our business is "dynamic," meaning our market and we can change quickly. You'll need to be comfortable in a startup environment. Think independent, motivated, self-starter.
- A passion for sustainability and making the world a better place!
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to perform office work for extended periods, including use of a computer and telephone.
- Ability to travel to project sites, which may include outdoor environments with exposure to variable weather conditions and uneven terrain
Working Conditions:
- Primarily remote or office-based work environment
- Up to 20% travel required for project site visits, developer meetings, and industry events
The position is full-time. Compensation will be commensurate with experience. We collect personal information (PI) from you in connection with your application for employment with Redwood Materials, including the following categories of PI: identifiers, personal records, professional or employment information, and inferences drawn from your PI. We collect your PI for our purposes, including performing services and operations related to your potential employment.
