Which finance companies sponsor H-1B1 visas in New York?
Large financial institutions with significant New York presences are among the most active H-1B1 sponsors in finance. JPMorgan Chase, Goldman Sachs, Citigroup, Morgan Stanley, and BlackRock have filed H-1B1 petitions for finance roles in prior years, based on Department of Labor disclosure data. Asset managers, hedge funds, and financial technology firms in New York also sponsor H-1B1 holders, though sponsorship activity varies by firm and year.
Which cities in New York have the most finance H-1B1 sponsorship jobs?
Manhattan accounts for the overwhelming majority of finance H-1B1 sponsorship positions in New York State, concentrated in Midtown and the Financial District where major banks, investment firms, and asset managers are headquartered. Smaller concentrations exist in areas like Long Island City and White Plains. Outside New York City, finance sponsorship activity drops sharply, so most candidates focus their search on Manhattan-based employers.
What types of finance roles typically qualify for H-1B1 sponsorship?
H-1B1 sponsorship in finance generally applies to specialty occupation roles that require at least a bachelor's degree in a specific field. Common qualifying positions include financial analyst, quantitative analyst, risk analyst, investment banking associate, compliance analyst, and data scientist roles within finance divisions. Roles where a general business degree or any unrelated degree satisfies the requirement may not meet the specialty occupation standard, so the specific degree-to-job match matters.
How do I find finance H-1B1 sponsorship jobs in New York?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for this search. You can filter by visa type (H-1B1), industry (Banking and Financial Services), and location (New York) to see finance roles where employers have indicated sponsorship willingness. Because H-1B1 is available only to Chilean and Singaporean nationals, the pool of competing applicants is smaller than for H-1B roles, which makes targeted searching on Migrate Mate especially useful for narrowing to relevant New York finance opportunities.
Are there any state-specific or industry-specific considerations for H-1B1 sponsorship in New York finance?
New York finance employers, particularly large banks and investment firms, often have dedicated immigration teams and established relationships with immigration law firms, which can make the sponsorship process more structured than at smaller companies. New York State also has its own labor laws that interact with prevailing wage requirements under the H-1B1 program. Finance roles in New York are subject to federal and state regulatory requirements, and some compliance or legal-adjacent roles may require additional licensing that is separate from the visa process entirely.
What is the prevailing wage for H-1B1 finance jobs in New York?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
