Which insurance companies sponsor H-1B1 visas in New York?
New York-based carriers and brokerages with a history of H-1B1 sponsorship include AIG, MetLife, Chubb, Marsh McLennan, New York Life, and Travelers. Reinsurers such as Munich Re America and Swiss Re also maintain significant New York operations and sponsor specialty roles. Sponsorship patterns vary by year and role, so reviewing Department of Labor LCA disclosure data is the most reliable way to verify current filings.
Which cities in New York have the most insurance H-1B1 sponsorship jobs?
Manhattan accounts for the overwhelming majority of insurance H-1B1 sponsorship activity in New York, given the concentration of global carriers, reinsurers, and brokerage firms in Midtown and Lower Manhattan. White Plains and Melville on Long Island have secondary clusters tied to regional offices. Albany occasionally surfaces roles connected to regulatory and compliance functions at state-chartered insurers.
What types of insurance roles typically qualify for H-1B1 sponsorship?
H-1B1 sponsorship in insurance is generally limited to specialty occupations requiring at least a bachelor's degree in a specific field. Roles that commonly meet this standard include actuary, risk analyst, underwriter, data scientist, financial analyst, and compliance officer. General claims adjusting or customer-facing sales roles rarely qualify because they typically do not require a degree in a specific discipline as a standard entry requirement.
How do I find insurance H-1B1 sponsorship jobs in New York?
Migrate Mate is purpose-built for international job seekers and filters listings specifically by visa type, including H-1B1, and by industry, so you can search insurance roles in New York without sifting through positions that do not offer sponsorship. The platform surfaces employers with a documented history of filing H-1B1 petitions, which saves significant time compared to applying broadly and asking about sponsorship after the fact.
Are there any New York-specific considerations for H-1B1 sponsorship in insurance?
New York's Department of Financial Services regulates insurers operating in the state, which means compliance, legal, and actuarial functions often require specialized credentials that align well with H-1B1 specialty occupation standards. Employers in New York's insurance sector are also accustomed to sponsoring international talent given the city's role as a global financial hub, though each petition still requires the employer to file a certified Labor Condition Application with the Department of Labor.
What is the prevailing wage for H-1B1 insurance jobs in New York?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
