Summary
The BIM Designer / CAD Modeler is responsible for developing coordinated 3D models and construction drawings using Revit, AutoCAD, and related BIM tools to support project design, prefabrication, and field installation. This role works closely with sales teams, project managers, customers, and fabrication teams to produce coordinated models, fabrication drawings, and installation packages that support successful project delivery. This position plays a key role in supporting prefabrication and construction efficiency through coordinated BIM modeling. The ideal candidate has experience working in construction, prefabrication, or trade coordination environments and is comfortable participating in BIM coordination and managing multiple projects simultaneously.
Key Responsibilities
BIM Modeling & Design
- Develop and maintain 3D BIM models using Revit and AutoCAD.
- Create detailed fabrication drawings, installation drawings, and submittal packages.
- Develop and maintain custom Revit families and model components.
- Ensure models comply with project standards and BIM requirements.
Project Coordination
- Coordinate with customers, internal sales teams, project managers, and vendors throughout the project lifecycle.
- Participate in BIM coordination meetings with project stakeholders when required.
- Perform clash detection and coordination using Navisworks or BIM coordination tools.
- Coordinate with third-party BIM detailers and other trades.
Fabrication & Installation Support
- Produce prefabrication spool drawings for the shop.
- Create field installation drawings for superintendents and jobsite teams.
- Work with fabrication personnel to ensure designs support efficient manufacturing and installation.
Documentation & Project Management
- Maintain organized project documentation and drawing packages.
- Track revisions, scope changes, and drawing updates throughout the project.
- Manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast paced environment.
- Communicate project updates and escalate issues to management when necessary.
Client & Team Collaboration
- Maintain professional relationships with customers and project partners.
- Coordinate with designers, technicians, and engineers to incorporate project concepts into final drawings.
- Support the technical sales team with project modeling and design documentation.
Qualifications
Required
- Ability to read and interpret construction blueprints and specifications
- 2+ years experience as a CAD drafter, designer, or BIM modeler
- Advanced proficiency with Revit
- Advanced proficiency with AutoCAD
- Experience creating and managing custom Revit families
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word)
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
Preferred
- Experience with BIM 360 / Autodesk Construction Cloud
- Experience with Navisworks clash detection
- Experience producing fabrication drawings or prefabrication models
- Experience producing field installation drawings
- Experience coordinating with multiple construction trades
- Knowledge of construction systems, fabrication, or prefabrication workflows
- Experience modeling construction support systems, electrical supports, or prefabricated assemblies is highly desirable
Education
- Associate degree or technical certificate in drafting, design, engineering technology, or related field preferred
- Equivalent work experience may be considered.
