Which aerospace and defense companies sponsor F-1 CPT visas in Texas?
Several large defense contractors with significant Texas operations have a documented history of hiring F-1 CPT students, including Lockheed Martin (Fort Worth), Raytheon Technologies (McKinney and El Paso), L3Harris, Bell Textron, and Boeing. NASA's Johnson Space Center in Houston also supports CPT placements through university partnerships. Sponsorship availability varies by team, role, and semester, so confirming CPT eligibility with each employer's HR department before applying is important.
Which cities in Texas have the most aerospace and defense F-1 CPT sponsorship jobs?
Fort Worth leads due to Lockheed Martin's F-35 production facility and a dense network of defense subcontractors. Houston follows closely, anchored by NASA Johnson Space Center and aerospace engineering programs at Rice University and the University of Houston. San Antonio has a strong defense presence tied to Joint Base San Antonio, and Austin is growing in aerospace through space technology startups like SpaceX's Starbase development nearby in South Texas.
What types of aerospace and defense roles typically qualify for F-1 CPT sponsorship?
Roles that align directly with engineering, computer science, physics, or mathematics degree programs qualify most consistently for CPT authorization. Common qualifying positions include systems engineering interns, avionics test engineers, propulsion research assistants, software engineers working on defense systems, and structural analysis co-ops. Roles in program management or general operations are less likely to satisfy a university's CPT direct-relation requirement unless the student's degree program explicitly covers those areas.
How do I find aerospace and defense F-1 CPT sponsorship jobs in Texas?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international students searching for F-1 CPT-eligible positions, including aerospace and defense roles in Texas. You can filter directly by visa type and state to see verified sponsoring employers rather than sorting through listings that don't address visa authorization at all. For a sector like aerospace and defense, where CPT eligibility depends heavily on role-to-degree alignment, having pre-filtered results saves significant time during internship recruitment cycles.
Are there state-specific or industry-specific considerations for F-1 CPT in Texas aerospace and defense?
Many Texas aerospace and defense positions involve work on U.S. government contracts, which can trigger export control regulations under ITAR (International Traffic in Arms Regulations). Some roles at these facilities are restricted to U.S. persons, meaning F-1 students may be ineligible regardless of CPT authorization. Always verify whether a position requires U.S. citizenship or permanent residency before applying, and confirm with your DSO that the role satisfies your program's CPT requirements.
