Burlington School District is seeking an experienced and energetic EL teacher to support newly-arrived elementary-aged English Learner/multilingual students in gaining increasing familiarity with the routines of US schools as well as critical oral language, reading and math skills through high-quality focused academic programming which is appropriate to their varying levels of proficiency in English. The design for the academic program will be that of a multi-age sheltered classroom specifically designed for students who have recently arrived in the US. One classroom will serve students who have completed grades K-2, while another will serve students who have completed grades 3-5. Students will also benefit from participation in theme-based enrichment activities and field trips over the course of the 5-week summer program.
QUALIFICATIONS
Job Requirements:
- Licensed or eligible for Vermont Educators License.
- EL endorsement strongly preferred.
- Eligible to work in the United States without sponsorship.
- Commitment to work all 5 program weeks, July 1st - August 1st.
Experience:
- Previous experience and training working with English language learners, ideally at the elementary level.
- Previous experience working in a summer learning program or understanding of summer learning.
- Experience working with Multilingual Liaisons or interpreters preferred.
Knowledge:
- Knowledge of best practices regarding relationship building, creating a safe yet challenging learning environment, and motivation and student management, particularly for students who are not yet fully proficient in English.
- Evidence of strong connection with students and families.
- Experience working with Multilingual Liaisons or interpreters preferred.
- Knowledge of elementary research-based best practices, including project-based and hands-on learning.
Dates and Position Hours:
In-Service Date: (TBD), 1-3 days
Program Dates: June 29th - July 30th, M-Th, 5 weeks.
Hours: 32 hours/week, daily schedule 8 a.m. - 3:30 p.m., Monday - Thursday.
