INTRODUCTION
Casella Construction is seeking to hire a Senior Financial Accountant to join our Accounting and Finance Team in Pittsford, Vermont. The Senior Financial Accountant is responsible for overseeing a company’s financial operations, including the preparation of financial statements, analyzing complex financial data, managing the General Ledger, performing account reconciliations, ensuring compliance with Accounting Standards, interfacing with auditors, and managing junior staff members and role specialists.
The ideal person for this role is a self-motivated, detail-oriented, technically proficient, and adaptable financial leader who is eager to contribute to a team with high ethical standards that embraces innovation and is an industry leader.
Responsibilities
- Prepare accurate and timely financial statements in accordance with GAAP, IFRS, and IAS standards
- Own and oversee the month-end process including journal entries, account reconciliations, and variance analysis
- Prepare and analyze data to identify trends, variances, potential risks, as well as opportunities, and provide that insight to management for strategic decision-making
- Maintain the General Ledger, own the chart of accounts, ensure the accuracy of all data and processing, and ensure proper transaction coding
- Review the activity that goes into the key accounts such as Prepaids, Fixed Assets, Debt, Sales / Revenue, etc.
- Coordinate and support the gathering of assumptions and data to be used in building the annual budget and running forecast models
- Implement, maintain, and test compliance to financial policies
- Collaborate with external 3rd Party auditors by gathering and supplying documentation and explanations behind various transactions
- Maintain pace with promulgations and standards, and test against adherence
- Mentor, guide, and train junior staff and associates; delegate tasks with objectives and timelines for completion
- Training requirements, both in person and online, as needed or required
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business with concentration in Accounting
- Minimum of 5 years of experience as an accountant, along with experience in team leadership
- Ability to present complex accounting information in an easy-to-understand format
- Hands-on experience with accounting software packages including ERP Systems and General Ledger packages
- Strong system skills and proven business improvement skills
- In-depth understanding of GAAP, GAAS, IFRS, and IAS
- Leadership skills and the ability to mentor, delegate, and motivate a team to produce results
- Excellent customer service and client satisfaction skills
- Awareness of business trends
- Familiarity with financial accounting statements
- Experience with general ledger functions and the month-end/year-end close process
- Advanced MS Excel skills including Vlookups and pivot tables
- Accuracy and attention to detail
- Aptitude for numbers and quantitative skills
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience leading a small team and liaising with senior members of a company, particularly a Chief Financial Officer, is beneficial
- Experience overseeing tasks and organizing a department is also a plus
