Team Introduction:
The EE Platform team focuses on silicon and EE architecture for AR/VR platforms to optimize the system power, latency and performance. The team innovates on customized silicon solutions for imaging, display and connectivity with HW/SW co-optimization.
Topic Content:
The rapid advancement of AI Agents is set to have a far-reaching and transformative impact on daily life. As the hardware bridge linking AI Agents to the physical world and end users, intelligent hardware acts as a vital gateway for agents to perceive their environment and recognize user intent. Enabling AI Agents to maintain round-the-clock environmental awareness and efficiently capture real-time user intentions is essential to improving their everyday service experience. This topic seeks to overcome the limitations of conventional visual perception systems. By deeply integrating sensing and computing, it explores full-stack innovation spanning from low-level hardware to high-level algorithms. Key efforts include developing next-generation sensors with real-time understanding capabilities, investigating non-traditional visual capture and compression techniques, and designing novel hardware architectures to run advanced algorithms—enabling highly efficient coordination across sensing, processing, and communication.
Topic Challenge:
Break free from the framework of conventional sensing systems, explore novel sensors, signal processing and compression schemes to achieve highly energy-efficient sensing tasks, while enabling seamless integration with large models.
Topic Value:
Breakthroughs in this research direction will enable intelligent hardware to better connect AI, users, and daily life. Against the backdrop of the AI Agent era, this will unlock the gateway to the next generation of intelligent hardware terminals and open up broader technological possibilities.

Tailor Your Resume to ByteDance's Stack
ByteDance data engineering roles reference Flink, Spark, and large-scale batch and streaming pipelines heavily in their job descriptions. Surface hands-on experience with distributed systems and data warehousing tools clearly so your resume clears the technical screen for this specific team.
Target Intern Roles That Convert to Full-Time
ByteDance regularly converts strong data engineering interns into full-time positions, which is where H-1B or E-3 sponsorship becomes relevant. Identifying roles on the ByteDance careers page marked as returning or new grad eligible increases your odds of a conversion offer with sponsorship.
Browse Open Intern Listings Through Migrate Mate
Use Migrate Mate to filter ByteDance's active Data Engineering Intern openings by visa type. This saves time compared to manually parsing job boards and ensures the roles you apply to align with your specific visa authorization, whether OPT, CPT, or H-1B1.
Understand the 60-Day Grace Period Before Gaps
If your internship ends and you're transitioning to a full-time role or new OPT authorization, USCIS allows a 60-day grace period after employment ends. Plan your ByteDance internship end date and your next visa status step so you don't fall out of status between the two.
Ask ByteDance Recruiters About Full-Time Sponsorship Pathways Directly
During the offer stage, ask the recruiting team explicitly which visa categories ByteDance files for converted interns in data engineering. ByteDance sponsors H-1B, E-3, and H-1B1, and knowing which applies to your citizenship helps you plan your post-OPT timeline accurately.
Data Engineering Intern at ByteDance jobs are hiring across the US. Find yours.
Find Data Engineering Intern at ByteDance JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does ByteDance sponsor H-1B visas for Data Engineering Interns?
Not for the internship itself. ByteDance intern roles are typically worked under F-1 CPT or OPT, which your university authorizes rather than ByteDance. H-1B sponsorship becomes relevant if your internship converts to a full-time Data Engineering role. ByteDance does sponsor H-1B petitions for full-time employees and has a strong track record doing so in engineering functions.
How do I apply for Data Engineering Intern jobs at ByteDance?
Applications go through ByteDance's official careers portal at jobs.bytedance.com. Filter by internship and data engineering to surface relevant openings. You can also browse verified ByteDance Data Engineering Intern listings with visa sponsorship details on Migrate Mate, which makes it easier to confirm which roles align with your current visa authorization before applying.
Which visa types does ByteDance commonly use for Data Engineering roles?
For interns, F-1 CPT and OPT are the primary authorizations. For full-time data engineering hires, ByteDance sponsors H-1B, H-1B1 for Singaporean and Chilean nationals, and E-3 for Australian citizens. Longer-term, ByteDance also supports EB-2 and EB-3 Green Card sponsorship for employees moving toward permanent residence in engineering roles.
What qualifications does ByteDance expect for a Data Engineering Intern?
ByteDance typically expects enrollment in a bachelor's or master's program in Computer Science, Data Engineering, or a related field. Practical experience with distributed data processing frameworks like Spark or Flink, familiarity with SQL and Python, and exposure to data pipeline architecture are common requirements. Projects or coursework demonstrating work at scale differentiate competitive applicants from general software engineering candidates.
How do I time my application to align with ByteDance's intern hiring cycle?
ByteDance follows a fall recruiting cycle for summer internships, with many Data Engineering Intern roles opening between August and November for the following summer. If you're on OPT, confirm your authorization start date aligns with the internship period before accepting an offer. CPT applications through your university typically require at least 30 days of lead time before the internship start date.
