Align your credentials to Deloitte's service lines
Deloitte's tax practice is divided into Business Tax Services, International Tax, and Global Employer Services, among others. Tailor your resume and credentials to one service line rather than presenting a generalist profile, hiring managers at this level recruit for depth, not breadth.
Pursue a CPA before targeting this level
Tax Manager roles at Deloitte almost universally require an active CPA license. If you're on an F-1 OPT or H-1B and haven't yet sat the exam, getting licensed before applying removes a common sticking point in the offer and visa filing process.
Use Migrate Mate to find open Tax Manager roles
Deloitte posts Tax Manager positions across dozens of office locations, and sponsorship availability can vary by market. Use Migrate Mate to filter for roles that are open to visa sponsorship so you're not applying blind.
Target offices in markets with active client pipelines
Deloitte's busiest sponsorship activity for Tax Managers tends to track its largest advisory markets. New York, Chicago, and San Francisco offices handle heavy international client loads, which drives demand for tax professionals with cross-border expertise and increases the likelihood of sponsorship support.
Understand how PERM timing affects your offer negotiation
If you're targeting a Green Card through EB-2 or EB-3, Deloitte typically initiates the PERM labor certification process after you're established in the role. Factor this timeline into your start date and visa status planning, especially if your current authorized period is limited.
Clarify H-1B cap status before your interview loop
If you've never held H-1B status, you're subject to the annual lottery run by USCIS each March. Know your cap eligibility before your final-round conversations with Deloitte's talent team so you can discuss timing accurately if an offer is extended.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Deloitte sponsor H-1B visas for Tax Managers?
Yes, Deloitte sponsors H-1B visas for Tax Manager roles. The firm has dedicated immigration support infrastructure and works with outside counsel to handle petitions. Sponsorship is not guaranteed for every opening, so it's worth confirming during the recruiter screening call which specific roles include visa support before advancing through the interview process.
Which visa types does Deloitte commonly sponsor for Tax Manager roles?
Deloitte sponsors H-1B, H-1B1 visa, and E-3 visas for Tax Manager positions, depending on your nationality. Australian citizens are eligible for the E-3, and Chilean and Singaporean nationals may qualify for the H-1B1. For longer-term work authorization, Deloitte also supports Green Card filings through the EB-2 and EB-3 employment-based categories, typically initiated after you're established in the role.
How do I apply for Tax Manager jobs at Deloitte?
Applications go through Deloitte's careers portal at deloitte.com/us/careers. You can also find Tax Manager openings filtered by visa sponsorship eligibility on Migrate Mate, which helps you focus on roles where sponsorship support is confirmed. Deloitte's process typically involves a recruiter screen, technical interviews focused on your service line specialty, and a final-round partner or director conversation.
What qualifications does Deloitte expect for a Tax Manager candidate?
Deloitte typically expects a bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field, an active CPA license, and around five to eight years of progressive tax experience, with at least some time in public accounting. Specialization in international tax, transfer pricing, or M&A tax is a strong differentiator. A master's in taxation is common but not universally required across all service lines.
How do I navigate the visa filing timeline after receiving a Deloitte offer?
Once Deloitte extends an offer, their immigration team typically engages outside counsel to begin the petition process. For H-1B cap-subject candidates, the petition must be filed during the annual registration window in March, with an October 1 start date if selected. If you're transferring an existing H-1B, Deloitte can file immediately under cap-exempt portability rules, allowing you to start as soon as USCIS acknowledges receipt.
