Build a portfolio around Google's platforms
Google interviews for Mobile Engineer roles emphasize deep Android or iOS expertise. Showcase projects using Jetpack Compose, Kotlin Multiplatform, or Swift on GitHub before you apply. Interviewers look for evidence of production-scale thinking, not just familiarity.
Target teams that align with your specialty
Google's mobile hiring spans Search, Maps, YouTube, and Pixel. Applying to a specific team whose product you know well signals intent and increases your interview-to-offer conversion rate compared to a blanket application through the general careers portal.
Confirm your visa category before your offer stage
Google sponsors H-1B, H-1B1, and E-3 visas. Australian citizens can request E-3 sponsorship, which avoids the lottery entirely. Clarify your preferred visa category with the recruiter during the offer call so Google's immigration team files the correct petition from the start.
Align your start date with H-1B cap timing
If you need a cap-subject H-1B, USCIS opens registration in March for an October 1 start. Google coordinates registration through its immigration counsel, but you should account for this window when negotiating your offer start date to avoid a months-long gap.
Document your degree equivalency early
Google's Mobile Engineer roles are specialty occupations requiring a directly related bachelor's degree. If your degree is from outside the U.S. or is in a tangentially related field, get a credential evaluation completed before your offer letter arrives so it's ready when USCIS reviews the I-129.
Use Migrate Mate to find open sponsoring roles
Not every Mobile Engineer posting at Google is flagged as visa-sponsoring on general job boards. Search Migrate Mate to filter for Google roles that explicitly support international candidates, so you're applying to positions where sponsorship is already confirmed rather than discovering the answer after an interview.

Find Mobile Engineer at Google JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Google sponsor H-1B visas for Mobile Engineers?
Yes, Google sponsors H-1B visas for Mobile Engineer roles. The company works with dedicated immigration counsel to manage the full petition process, including the DOL Labor Condition Application and USCIS I-129 filing. If you're subject to the H-1B cap, Google coordinates your registration each March for an October start date.
Which visa types does Google sponsor for Mobile Engineer roles?
Google sponsors H-1B, H-1B1, and E-3 visas for Mobile Engineers. H-1B1 is available to Chilean and Singaporean nationals, while E-3 is exclusive to Australian citizens and bypasses the H-1B lottery. The right visa depends on your nationality and current status, and Google's immigration team will guide you through the options after an offer is made.
What qualifications does Google expect for a sponsored Mobile Engineer role?
Google typically expects a bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a closely related field. For visa sponsorship purposes, the degree must align with the specialty occupation standard USCIS applies. Beyond credentials, Google's hiring bar emphasizes systems design, platform-specific expertise in Android or iOS, and experience shipping features at scale.
How do I apply for Mobile Engineer jobs at Google?
Applications go through Google's careers portal, but not every posting is clearly marked as open to visa sponsorship. The most efficient path is to browse Mobile Engineer roles at Google on Migrate Mate, where listings are filtered to show positions that support international candidates. From there, you apply directly and proceed through Google's standard recruiter screen, technical interviews, and hiring committee review.
How do I plan my timeline if Google is sponsoring my work visa?
Timeline depends on your visa type. E-3 and H-1B1 petitions can be filed year-round with consular processing typically completed within a few weeks of your appointment. Cap-subject H-1B petitions follow a fixed annual cycle, with USCIS registration in March and the earliest work authorization starting October 1. Build at least three to five months of runway between your offer acceptance and your intended start date.
