Tailor your resume to Google's hardware stack
Google hires heavily for custom silicon, TPU architecture, and data center hardware. Align your resume to these domains before applying. Generic hardware experience won't stand out against candidates with ASIC design, RTL, or chip-level systems work.
Use Migrate Mate to find open Hardware Engineer roles at Google
Hardware Engineer openings at Google that include visa sponsorship aren't always easy to identify across general job boards. Use Migrate Mate to filter specifically for sponsored roles at Google so you're only spending time on positions where sponsorship is confirmed.
Prepare for Google's technical depth on hardware systems
Google's hardware interviews go deep on digital logic, power delivery, signal integrity, and systems architecture. Candidates who clear technical screens but stumble on USCIS specialty occupation documentation often have mismatched job descriptions. Make sure your title, duties, and degree field are internally consistent before your employer files.

Find Hardware Engineer at Google JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Google sponsor H-1B visas for Hardware Engineers?
Yes, Google sponsors H-1B visas for Hardware Engineers. The process involves Google filing a Labor Condition Application with the DOL, followed by an H-1B petition with USCIS. For cap-subject H-1B cases, your petition must be selected in the annual lottery, which runs in March for an October 1 start date. Google's immigration team handles the filing process once you have a signed offer.
How do I apply for Hardware Engineer jobs at Google?
You can apply through Google's careers portal or find sponsored openings directly on Migrate Mate, which filters for roles where visa sponsorship is confirmed. Google's hardware hiring process typically involves a recruiter screen, technical phone interviews covering digital design or systems topics, and an onsite or virtual loop before an offer is extended.
Which visa types does Google commonly use for Hardware Engineers?
Google sponsors H-1B, H-1B1, and E-3 visas for Hardware Engineers. H-1B is available to most nationalities but subject to the annual cap and lottery. H-1B1 is available to Chilean and Singaporean nationals. E-3 is available exclusively to Australian citizens and allows a more direct path without lottery exposure. All three require the role to qualify as a specialty occupation under USCIS standards.
What qualifications does Google expect for Hardware Engineer roles?
Google typically expects a bachelor's degree or higher in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or a closely related field. For senior roles, hands-on experience with ASIC design, RTL development, chip verification, or data center hardware is standard. Your degree field needs to align directly with the role's duties to satisfy the specialty occupation requirement that USCIS applies when reviewing H-1B and E-3 petitions.
How do I understand the visa filing timeline after accepting an offer at Google?
Timeline depends on your visa category. E-3 and H-1B1 cases can be filed year-round and processed within a few weeks to a few months. Cap-subject H-1B cases follow a fixed annual cycle: registration opens in March, lottery results are announced in late March or April, and employment can begin October 1 at the earliest. Google's immigration counsel will walk you through the specific timeline once your offer is confirmed.
