Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding Gas Plumber Jobs at Pacific Gas and Electric Company Jobs
Get your gas trade credentials U.S.-recognized
California requires specific plumber licensing through the Contractors State License Board. Before applying, verify your existing credentials translate or identify which exams you need. Arriving interview-ready with a clear licensing plan signals you won't need hand-holding on compliance.
Target PG&E's union-affiliated gas distribution postings
Many PG&E Gas Plumber roles fall under collective bargaining agreements with IBEW or other trades unions. Positions tied to union contracts often have defined wage scales, which aligns directly with DOL prevailing wage requirements and can streamline the LCA filing process for H-1B sponsorship.
Find open Gas Plumber roles through Migrate Mate
Searching for active Gas Plumber openings at PG&E with confirmed sponsorship history is faster through Migrate Mate, which filters jobs by visa type so you're only looking at roles where sponsorship is genuinely on the table.
Clarify TN eligibility before the offer stage
Canadian and Mexican nationals may qualify for TN status in engineering-adjacent trades roles depending on how PG&E classifies the position. Confirm the job description maps to an eligible TN occupation category with the hiring manager before signing anything.
Ask HR specifically about PERM timing for this role
Gas Plumber positions are not exempt from PERM labor market tests, and PG&E's large workforce means recruitment documentation requirements are closely scrutinized. Ask during the offer process whether the company is willing to run a concurrent I-140 filing to protect your priority date early.
Align your F-1 OPT start date with field crew schedules
PG&E Gas Plumber roles are field-based and tied to infrastructure project cycles. Coordinating your OPT start date with active project periods, rather than slow seasons, increases your chances of a full-time offer and a smoother transition to H-1B cap sponsorship.

Find Gas Plumber at Pacific Gas and Electric Company JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Pacific Gas and Electric Company sponsor H-1B visas for Gas Plumbers?
Yes, PG&E has a documented history of sponsoring H-1B visas for roles in its gas operations division, including skilled trades positions. For a Gas Plumber role specifically, the company would need to file a Labor Condition Application with the DOL confirming prevailing wage compliance before USCIS can process the H-1B petition. Sponsorship decisions are made at the hiring manager and HR level, so raising it early in the offer conversation is the right move.
How do I apply for Gas Plumber jobs at Pacific Gas and Electric Company?
Applications go through PG&E's careers portal, where Gas Plumber and gas distribution roles are listed under operations and field services. You can also browse open Gas Plumber positions at PG&E with visa sponsorship history through Migrate Mate, which surfaces roles filtered by sponsorship type so you can prioritize applications where your visa situation is already accounted for.
Which visa types does PG&E commonly use for Gas Plumber roles?
PG&E sponsors H-1B visas for specialty occupation roles and supports F-1 OPT and CPT for eligible students transitioning into full-time positions. TN visas are an option for Canadian and Mexican nationals if the role classification aligns with eligible occupations under USMCA. For permanent residency, PG&E has used EB-2 and EB-3 pathways, with EB-3 being the more common route for skilled trades and technical field roles.
What qualifications does PG&E expect for Gas Plumber positions?
PG&E typically requires a journeyman-level or higher gas plumber certification, familiarity with California gas distribution codes, and hands-on experience with pressure testing, leak detection, and pipe installation or repair. Candidates with experience on large-scale utility infrastructure, rather than residential or small commercial work, are better aligned with PG&E's grid-scale operations. Relevant OSHA safety certifications are also commonly expected.
How long does the visa sponsorship process take for a Gas Plumber at PG&E?
For H-1B, the timeline depends on the annual cap lottery, which opens each April for an October 1 start date. If you're already on F-1 OPT, PG&E can keep you working during the cap gap using the OPT extension if applicable. For PERM-based Green Card pathways, the process from labor certification filing to I-140 approval typically takes one to three years, not counting visa queue backlogs for some nationalities.
