Align your portfolio with security infrastructure work
Palo Alto Networks' backend roles center on distributed systems, cloud-native architectures, and high-throughput data pipelines. Tailor your GitHub profile and resume to reflect experience in these areas before applying, not after.
Target teams with active USCIS filing histories
Palo Alto Networks' security platform and cloud engineering teams have consistent patterns of sponsoring backend engineers. Search DOL LCA disclosure data by job title and worksite to identify which internal teams file most actively for your target role.
Use Migrate Mate to filter Backend Software Engineer openings by visa type
Sponsorship eligibility isn't always visible in a standard job listing. Use Migrate Mate to browse Backend Software Engineer roles at Palo Alto Networks filtered by the visa categories you qualify for, so you apply to roles where sponsorship is already confirmed.
Prepare your degree equivalency documentation early
Palo Alto Networks' H-1B petitions require USCIS to classify backend engineering as a specialty occupation tied to your degree. If your credential is from outside the U.S., get a credential evaluation from a NACES-approved agency before your recruiter asks.
Negotiate your start date around H-1B cap timing
If you're subject to the H-1B annual cap, USCIS only allows an October 1 start date for new petitions. When you receive a Palo Alto Networks offer, confirm with HR whether you need cap-subject filing and build your start date negotiation around that constraint.

Find Backend Software Engineer at Palo Alto Networks JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Palo Alto Networks sponsor H-1B visas for Backend Software Engineers?
Yes, Palo Alto Networks sponsors H-1B visas for Backend Software Engineers. The company files both cap-subject petitions for new hires and cap-exempt transfers for candidates already on H-1B status with another employer. If you're applying as a new H-1B beneficiary, your employment start date will be tied to the October 1 cap year, so factor that into your offer timeline discussions with the recruiting team.
How do I apply for Backend Software Engineer jobs at Palo Alto Networks?
Apply directly through Palo Alto Networks' careers portal, or browse open Backend Software Engineer roles filtered by visa sponsorship eligibility on Migrate Mate. Before applying, review the job description for team-specific signals like Kubernetes, Go, or cloud security tooling, since backend roles vary significantly across the company's product lines. Tailor your application to the specific infrastructure domain the team works in.
Which visa types does Palo Alto Networks commonly sponsor for Backend Software Engineers?
Palo Alto Networks sponsors H-1B, E-3, TN, and F-1 OPT and CPT for Backend Software Engineers, and supports Green Card pathways through EB-2 and EB-3 PERM-based sponsorship for longer-tenured employees. The right category depends on your citizenship: Australian nationals are eligible for the E-3, Canadian and Mexican nationals for TN, and most others would pursue H-1B or F-1 OPT depending on their current status.
What qualifications does Palo Alto Networks expect for Backend Software Engineer roles?
Most Backend Software Engineer roles at Palo Alto Networks require a bachelor's degree or higher in computer science, software engineering, or a closely related field. Practically, the company looks for experience with distributed systems, REST or gRPC API design, and cloud platforms like AWS or GCP. Security domain knowledge is a differentiator but not always required at entry level, especially on infrastructure-focused teams.
How long does the visa sponsorship process take for a Backend Software Engineer offer at Palo Alto Networks?
Timeline depends heavily on your visa category. F-1 OPT authorization is typically already in place before you start. H-1B cap-subject petitions have a fixed October 1 start date, with USCIS registration in March and a processing window of several months. E-3 and TN can move faster since they're consular-processed and not subject to annual caps. USCIS premium processing is available for H-1B petitions if you need a faster adjudication decision.
