ABOUT THE JOB
ZS’s Data Strategy and Data Office has two pillars. First, we advise clients across sectors — including MedTech, Health Insurance, Travel & Hospitality, and other data-intensive industries — on all matters related to enterprise Data Strategy. As data volumes expand and AI reshapes business models, Data Strategy has become a critical, board-level priority. The team supports clients in defining data vision and mission, designing operating models and data organizations, establishing governance and stewardship frameworks, shaping data sourcing and generation strategies, enabling robust data architecture and cataloging capabilities, and driving compliant value creation. In close collaboration with our Digital and Technology practice, we diagnose and execute data strategies, helping clients build data capabilities and products that drive competitive advantage. The second pillar, Data Office, focuses on building and managing strategic relationships with a wide range of data providers to enable differentiated access to data and power innovative ZS offerings and services.
The Data Strategy Consultant will be located close to one of our East Coast U.S. offices and will help deliver world-class solutions that shape and execute enterprise data strategies, primarily in the MedTech, Health Insurance, or Travel & Hospitality sectors. This includes developing data organizations and Data Offices, designing governance and operating models, strengthening AI-ready data foundations, driving data portfolio optimization and value realization, and leading hands-on delivery of data programs. This individual will have high visibility within the firm and will work collaboratively with the broader Data Strategy team across the Americas, Europe and India, as well as with colleagues across multiple practice areas (e.g., Research and Development Excellence Digital Strategy, Technology Advisory, Compliance, and others).
WHAT YOU’LL DO:

- Lead (in collaboration with ZS’ internal and client-facing teams) the design and execution of enterprise data strategy engagements, including defining data vision, operating models and multi-year transformation roadmaps that address critical client challenges and build AI-ready data foundations
- Shape and implement strategic data capabilities that strengthen how organizations manage, govern and use data to drive measurable business value and competitive advantage
- Serve as a primary day-to-day project lead, manage multiple workstreams ensuring fulfillment of project objective on-time and on-budget
- Partner with the Senior Leadership team and assist in project management responsibility, including project planning, staffing management, and people growth
- Build relationships with client stakeholders and lead presentations related to project deliverables, brainstorming, discussions, status updates, etc.
- Manage and collaborate with an extended global team of diverse skill sets (knowledge management, data technologists, business operations, etc.)
- Mentor/coach junior members in the team, inside and outside projects
- Help build long-term Data Strategy assets and offerings
- Serve as Subject Matter Expert to support teams in client project proposals, client discussions, thought leadership, etc., where data expertise is needed
- Contribute to developing POVs on data strategy innovations to build firm intellectual capital and thought leadership
- Contribute to building and managing relationships with key data partners in the US
WHAT YOU’LL BRING:
- Bachelor's or master's degree required, with strong academic performance in analytic and quantitative coursework
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in data strategy, data governance, data management or enterprise data transformation; Consulting, Medtech, Health Insurance, Travel & Hospitality, or cross-industry experience preferred

Align your degree to ZS's specialty occupation standard
ZS files H-1B petitions under the specialty occupation standard, which requires a directly related bachelor's degree or higher. For Data Contributor roles, degrees in statistics, computer science, information systems, or a quantitative social science field strengthen your case considerably more than a general business degree.
Target ZS offices tied to active client engagements
ZS staffs Data Contributors against live consulting projects, so hiring velocity varies by office and practice area. Focus applications toward offices supporting pharmaceutical, biotech, or medtech clients, where data pipeline work is most consistently active and backfill hiring is more predictable.
Search open Data Contributor roles through Migrate Mate
Use Migrate Mate to filter Data Contributor openings at ZS Associates by visa type, so you're only seeing roles where sponsorship is confirmed rather than sifting through listings that exclude international candidates.
Clarify OPT start dates early in the offer stage
If you're on F-1 OPT, ZS needs your employment start date to align with your EAD validity window. Raise your authorization end date and any STEM OPT extension eligibility before the offer letter is drafted to avoid delays in the E-Verify process.
Understand how ZS handles H-1B cap-subject filings
ZS participates in the USCIS H-1B lottery each April for cap-subject candidates. If you're currently on OPT, your timeline needs to account for the October 1 start date. Confirm with your recruiter whether ZS files premium processing as part of its standard sponsorship practice.
Prepare client-facing data documentation examples before interviews
ZS Data Contributor interviews often test how you've structured, cleaned, or documented datasets for downstream use in consulting deliverables. Having two or three concrete examples from academic or internship work, with clear descriptions of methodology, directly addresses what ZS hiring managers assess at this level.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does ZS Associates sponsor H-1B visas for Data Contributors?
Yes, ZS Associates sponsors H-1B visas for Data Contributor roles. The company participates in the annual USCIS H-1B cap lottery, with a filing window each April and an October 1 start date for selected candidates. If you're currently on F-1 OPT, you can begin work before the H-1B takes effect, provided your OPT authorization covers the gap period.
How do I apply for Data Contributor jobs at ZS Associates?
You can search for Data Contributor openings at ZS Associates directly on the ZS careers site or through Migrate Mate, which filters listings by visa sponsorship eligibility so you can confirm the role supports your visa category before applying. Tailor your application to highlight quantitative coursework, data structuring experience, and any exposure to life sciences or consulting environments, since ZS's Data Contributor work is project-driven and client-facing.
Which visa types does ZS Associates commonly use for Data Contributor roles?
ZS Associates sponsors across several visa categories for Data Contributor positions, including H-1B, H-1B1 visa for Chilean and Singaporean nationals, TN visa for Canadian and Mexican citizens with qualifying degrees, and F-1 OPT and CPT for students in active programs. For candidates pursuing permanent residence, ZS has a track record of supporting EB-2 and EB-3 Green Card pathways for staff in analytical and data roles.
What qualifications does ZS Associates expect for Data Contributor positions?
ZS typically looks for candidates with a bachelor's or master's degree in a quantitative field such as statistics, computer science, information systems, or applied mathematics. For Data Contributor roles specifically, practical experience with data cleaning, database management, or structured data pipelines is weighted heavily. Familiarity with life sciences datasets or consulting project structures is a differentiator, though not always required at entry level.
How do I time my H-1B sponsorship if I'm starting at ZS on F-1 OPT?
If ZS hires you on F-1 OPT, they'll file your H-1B petition during the April registration window for an October 1 cap start date. You'll need enough OPT validity, or an approved STEM OPT extension, to bridge that gap. Confirm your EAD expiration date before accepting an offer and discuss the STEM extension timeline with your Designated School Official early, since USCIS processing for STEM OPT can take several months.
