Job Summary
The Machinist is responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining machine tools to fabricate, modify, repair, and manufacture precision parts and equipment. This position supports production operations by ensuring machinery, molds, tooling, and equipment are maintained to required specifications while adhering to safety and quality standards.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Set up and operate manual and CNC machine tools, including lathes, mills, grinders, drill presses, and related equipment.
- Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, specifications, and work orders.
- Manufacture, repair, and modify machine parts, tooling, fixtures, molds, and equipment components.
- Measure and inspect finished products using precision measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, gauges, and indicators.
- Troubleshoot equipment issues and determine appropriate repair solutions.
- Maintain tight tolerances and ensure all work meets quality standards.
- Perform preventative maintenance on machine tools and equipment.
- Collaborate with maintenance, engineering, and production teams to improve equipment reliability and efficiency.
- Maintain accurate records of work performed, materials used, and machine maintenance activities.
- Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and applicable regulations.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area following 5S and housekeeping standards.
- Assist with equipment installations, modifications, and continuous improvement initiatives as needed.
Qualifications
Education
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Technical school certification, apprenticeship, or vocational training in machining preferred.
Experience
- 3–5 years of machining experience preferred.
- Experience operating manual machine tools required; CNC machining experience preferred.
- Experience in a manufacturing environment preferred.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Strong understanding of machining principles, tooling, materials, and manufacturing processes.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings.
- Proficiency with precision measuring instruments and quality inspection techniques.
- Knowledge of machine setup, operation, troubleshooting, and repair.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Effective communication and teamwork skills.
- Basic computer skills for documentation and work order systems.
Physical Requirements
- Frequently stand, walk, bend, reach, and lift throughout the workday.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly and heavier items with assistance.
- Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with exposure to noise, moving machinery, and varying temperatures.
- Must be able to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
Work Environment
- Manufacturing and machine shop environment.
- May require overtime, weekend work, or on-call support based on production and maintenance needs.
