INTRODUCTION
Affirm is reinventing credit to make it more honest and friendly, giving consumers the flexibility to buy now and pay later without any hidden fees or compounding interest. The Checkout Product team is at the heart of this mission—powering Affirm’s core payment experience, frequently seen at merchant point of sale. This experience is distributed through direct merchant integrations and strategic platform partners, and is driven by a sophisticated, real-time, risk-based decisioning system spanning Identity, Fraud, Credit, and Pricing. We are looking for a Senior Director of Consumer Risk product to lead this critical surface area within Checkout. In this role, you will own the product vision, strategy, and execution across Credit, Pricing, and Fraud, enabling Affirm to grow responsibly while delivering best-in-class consumer and merchant experiences. Affirm’s proprietary underwriting is one of our greatest strengths. We only make money when consumers pay us back on time—aligning incentives and fundamentally reimagining how credit should work. As the leader of Consumer Risk product, you will help scale and evolve this system, balancing customer trust, merchant performance, and long-term business outcomes. This is a highly cross-functional, analytically rigorous, and commercially impactful role. You will lead and scale a team of Product Managers, partner deeply with Engineering, Machine Learning, Analytics, Risk, Finance, Legal, Design, and GTM teams, and influence senior leaders across the company.
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Own the end-to-end product vision, strategy, and execution for Consumer Risk within Checkout, encompassing Credit decisioning, Pricing, and Fraud prevention
- Translate Affirm’s mission into a clear product roadmap that balances growth, risk, customer trust, and platform scalability
- Lead and scale a team of Product Managers owning distinct Consumer Risk surface areas, fostering a culture of accountability, learning, and high performance
- Partner closely with Machine Learning, Analytics and Engineering to shape model-driven product experiences, including underwriting logic, pricing frameworks, fraud signals, and decisioning platforms
- Drive quantitative storytelling—using data, experiments, and modeling to inform strategy, influence stakeholders, and guide tradeoffs
- Champion a customer-first mindset, ensuring risk experiences are transparent, fair, and intuitive for consumers while delivering strong outcomes for merchants
- Collaborate cross-functionally with Risk, Finance, Legal, Compliance, Design, Marketing, and GTM teams to deliver cohesive, scalable solutions
- Set and own key performance metrics (e.g., approval rate, conversion, loss rate, unit economics, LTV, fraud outcomes, customer trust metrics) and hold teams accountable to results
- Navigate complex organizational dynamics and influence senior stakeholders, including the executive team, with clear articulation of strategy, tradeoffs, and impact
- Balance near-term execution with long-term platform investments, ensuring Consumer Risk capabilities scale with Affirm’s growth and partner ecosystem
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- 12+ years of Product Management experience, including leadership roles on fast-paced teams driving responsible, sustainable growth
- Deep experience working with Credit, Pricing, and/or Fraud stakeholders, with a strong understanding of:
- Credit: underwriting tradeoffs, unit economics, loss management, regulatory considerations
- Pricing: risk-based pricing, margin optimization, experimentation, and fairness considerations
- Fraud: adversarial systems, real-time decisioning, false positive/negative tradeoffs, and customer trust
- Strong quantitative and analytical orientation—comfortable engaging in model-level discussions, using data to drive decisions, and translating complexity into clear narratives
- Experience building and scaling platform and decisioning products, not just surface-level UX
- Proven track record of managing and mentoring large, geographically distributed PM teams
- Commercially minded with a high-agency, bias-to-action mindset and comfort making hard tradeoffs in ambiguous environments
- Exceptional communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence across functions and levels
- Experience working in design-forward organizations that prioritize clarity, transparency, and high-quality user experiences
- A systems thinker who can balance short-term business impact with long-term scalability and technical health
- Fintech, payments, or risk-heavy consumer product experience is a strong plus

Frame your fintech PM credentials precisely
Affirm's director-level product roles require documented ownership of payment rails, credit underwriting, or lending infrastructure. Before applying, organize evidence of shipped financial products that reduced risk or drove merchant adoption, not just general PM accomplishments.
Target open roles by product vertical
Affirm structures its product org around merchant partnerships, consumer experience, and risk platforms. Search for director openings within whichever vertical aligns with your portfolio. Applying to the right team meaningfully increases your odds of reaching a hiring manager conversation.
Understand which visa category fits your profile
Affirm sponsors H-1B, TN, and F-1 OPT at the director level, but each path has different timing constraints. TN is faster for Canadian or Mexican nationals. If your OPT expires within six months, flag this to the recruiter early so the H-1B cap-subject timeline can be assessed.
Clarify LCA and prevailing wage positioning upfront
DOL requires Affirm to certify a Labor Condition Application before filing your H-1B petition. At director level, your offered salary must meet the prevailing wage for your work location. Confirm the role's location and level before your final offer negotiation to avoid delays post-acceptance.
Build a PERM-readiness case from day one
If you're targeting a Green Card through Affirm via EB-2 or EB-3, your employer-sponsored PERM process requires documented minimum requirements tied to the role. Ensure your offer letter specifies degree and experience requirements that match your actual credentials to avoid discrepancies during PERM audits.

Find Director, Product Management at Affirm JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Affirm sponsor H-1B visas for Director, Product Managements?
Yes, Affirm sponsors H-1B visas for Director, Product Management roles. Affirm has an established pattern of filing H-1B petitions for product leadership positions, particularly within its payments, risk, and merchant platform teams. If you're cap-subject, timing matters significantly since the annual H-1B lottery typically opens in March for an October 1 start date. Confirm your situation with the recruiter early in the process.
How do I apply for Director, Product Management jobs at Affirm?
You can apply directly through Affirm's careers page or use Migrate Mate to browse Director, Product Management openings at Affirm that are confirmed to offer visa sponsorship. Before applying, tailor your application to highlight experience with financial products, credit infrastructure, or payment systems, since Affirm's product org is deeply technical and domain-specific. Director-level roles typically require multiple rounds including a leadership interview and a product case.
Which visa types does Affirm commonly use for Director, Product Management roles?
Affirm sponsors H-1B, TN, F-1 OPT, F-1 CPT, and EB-2/EB-3 Green Card pathways for product roles. H-1B is the most common path for director-level hires from outside North America. TN is available to Canadian and Mexican nationals and moves significantly faster than H-1B. If you're on OPT, Affirm can file an H-1B petition on your behalf ahead of your authorization expiry.
What qualifications does Affirm expect for Director, Product Management positions?
Affirm's Director, Product Management roles typically require substantial experience leading product teams within fintech, payments, lending, or consumer credit. You'll need a track record of owning large-scale product roadmaps, influencing engineering and data science partners, and delivering measurable outcomes in regulated financial environments. A background in credit risk, merchant acquisition, or payment processing is particularly relevant given Affirm's core business.
How do I plan my visa timeline when pursuing a Director, Product Management role at Affirm?
Your timeline depends entirely on your current status. H-1B cap-subject candidates must be selected in the lottery before Affirm can file a petition, which means an October 1 start date at the earliest. TN candidates can often start within weeks of an offer. If you're on OPT with fewer than six months remaining, raise this in your first recruiter conversation so Affirm's immigration team can assess whether an extension or H-1B filing is viable.
