Align your credentials to CRL's study types
Charles River runs GLP-compliant toxicology, safety assessment, and in vitro studies. Tailor your CV to reflect direct experience with these methodologies. USCIS scrutinizes whether your degree field directly supports the offered role, so specificity matters more than broad lab experience.
Target sites with active study pipelines
Charles River operates multiple U.S. facilities, and sponsorship activity clusters around sites with high study volume. Research which locations are hiring for your discipline, since a facility running active oncology or biologics programs is more likely to push a petition through quickly.
Clarify OPT STEM extension eligibility early
Laboratory roles in life sciences at CRL typically qualify under STEM OPT extension, giving you up to 36 months of work authorization. Confirm your degree CIP code qualifies before accepting an offer so you and your employer can plan the H-1B filing timeline without gaps.
Ask about H-1B filing timing during the offer stage
H-1B cap-subject petitions must be filed by April 1 for an October 1 start. If your offer comes late in the cycle, ask CRL's immigration team directly whether they'll file in the next lottery round or bridge your status another way.
Use Migrate Mate to find open Laboratory roles at CRL
Laboratory openings at CRL move quickly and aren't always tagged as sponsorship-friendly on general job boards. Search Migrate Mate to filter specifically for CRL Laboratory roles that list visa sponsorship, so you're applying to positions already flagged as viable for your status.
Prepare your PERM documentation proactively
If you're targeting a Green Card through CRL, the PERM labor certification requires DOL to verify no qualified U.S. workers are available. Ask early whether CRL initiates PERM for Laboratory staff, and keep records of your education and prior work history clean and verifiable.

Does Charles River Laboratories sponsor H-1B visas for Laboratorys?
Yes, Charles River Laboratories sponsors H-1B visas for Laboratory roles. The company has an established immigration process and works with legal counsel to file cap-subject and cap-exempt petitions depending on the role and facility. If you're on F-1 OPT, CRL will typically file your H-1B petition during the April filing window ahead of the October 1 start date.
How do I apply for Laboratory jobs at Charles River Laboratories?
Apply directly through Charles River Laboratories' careers portal, where Laboratory openings are listed by site and specialty. You can also browse roles filtered by visa sponsorship eligibility on Migrate Mate, which surfaces CRL Laboratory positions alongside sponsorship details. Tailor your application to the specific study type or service line the role supports, whether that's safety assessment, analytical chemistry, or in vivo research.
Which visa types does Charles River Laboratories commonly use for Laboratory roles?
Charles River Laboratories sponsors H-1B visas as the primary long-term work authorization pathway for Laboratory staff. The company also accepts F-1 OPT and CPT for students in active programs, and TN visas for Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying scientific roles. For permanent residence, CRL has used EB-2 and EB-3 Green Card pathways for laboratory professionals with advanced degrees or significant experience.
What qualifications does Charles River Laboratories expect for Laboratory roles?
Most Laboratory roles at CRL require at minimum a bachelor's degree in a life science field such as biology, biochemistry, toxicology, or chemistry. GLP compliance knowledge is a recurring requirement for study-facing positions. Roles in safety assessment or bioanalytical services often prefer candidates with direct hands-on experience in in vitro or in vivo methodologies. Advanced degrees improve both your candidacy and your H-1B specialty occupation case.
How long does the visa sponsorship process take for a Laboratory role at Charles River Laboratories?
Timeline depends on visa type. For H-1B, count on at least six months between lottery selection in March and the October 1 start date. USCIS standard processing runs three to five months, though premium processing can shorten adjudication to around 15 business days for an additional fee. PERM-based Green Card sponsorship through DOL adds a separate multi-year process that CRL initiates after a period of employment.
