Get Your Teaching Credentials Evaluated Early
North Carolina requires a state teaching license, and international degrees must pass a credential evaluation before CMS can move forward with sponsorship paperwork. Submit your transcripts to an NACES-approved evaluator well before you apply.
Target Subject Areas Facing Shortage Designations
CMS consistently struggles to fill middle school math, science, and special education classrooms. Applying into a shortage-designated subject strengthens your case for sponsorship and speeds up internal approval from district HR.
Clarify Sponsorship Scope During Offer Negotiations
Ask HR directly whether the offer covers attorney fees and PERM advertising costs, or whether those fall on you. CMS HR handles sponsorship at the district level, so get the scope of support confirmed in writing before signing.
Use Migrate Mate to Find Open CMS Positions
Middle school teaching openings at large districts fill fast and aren't always easy to track. Use Migrate Mate to browse current Middle School Teacher roles at Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools filtered by visa sponsorship eligibility.
Prepare Your Licensure Reciprocity Documentation in Advance
If you hold a teaching license from another U.S. state or an equivalent qualification abroad, North Carolina offers reciprocity pathways. Have your licensure documentation ready before your interview so HR can assess sponsorship feasibility immediately.

Find Middle School Teacher at Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools sponsor H-1B visas for Middle School Teachers?
Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools does not typically use the H-1B for classroom teachers because the H-1B is designed for specialty occupations in fields like technology, engineering, and finance. Public school districts like CMS generally pursue employment-based Green Card sponsorship through EB-2 or EB-3 categories instead, which are better suited to education roles and don't involve the annual H-1B lottery.
Which visa types does Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools commonly use for Middle School Teacher roles?
CMS primarily sponsors Middle School Teachers through the EB-2 and EB-3 immigrant visa categories, both of which require PERM labor certification filed with DOL. EB-2 applies if the role requires an advanced degree or exceptional ability, while EB-3 covers positions requiring a bachelor's degree. The path you qualify for depends on your credentials and the specific role requirements.
What qualifications are expected for Middle School Teacher roles at Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools?
CMS requires a bachelor's degree in education or a subject-area field, along with a valid North Carolina teaching license or eligibility for one. International candidates need a credential evaluation confirming their degree is equivalent to a U.S. bachelor's degree. Subject-area certifications in high-need fields like math, science, or special education improve your competitiveness and increase the likelihood that CMS will initiate sponsorship.
How do I apply for Middle School Teacher jobs at Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools?
Applications go through CMS's official district hiring portal, where you'll create a profile and apply to individual school vacancies. You can also browse Middle School Teacher roles at Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools that include visa sponsorship on Migrate Mate, which filters for sponsoring employers and makes it easier to identify relevant open positions before applying directly through the district.
How do I plan my timeline if Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools is sponsoring my Green Card?
PERM labor certification, the first step in EB-2 and EB-3 Green Card sponsorship, takes roughly 12 to 18 months with DOL under normal processing. After PERM approval, your employer files an I-140 petition with USCIS. Depending on your country of birth, there may be additional waiting periods due to visa backlogs. Start coordinating with CMS HR and an immigration attorney as early as possible after receiving your offer.
