Align Your Credentials to North Carolina Standards
North Carolina requires Teaching Assistants to meet specific paraprofessional qualification standards under federal education law. Get your foreign transcripts evaluated by a NACES-approved agency before applying so Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools can assess your eligibility without delays.
Target High-Need Schools Within the District
Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools operates dozens of Title I campuses with persistent staffing gaps. Applying to these schools increases your chances of reaching a hiring manager who has authority to move quickly and advocate for sponsorship through HR.
Understand the PERM Process for This Role
EB-2 and EB-3 sponsorship for Teaching Assistants requires the employer to complete a DOL PERM labor certification, proving no qualified U.S. worker is available. This process takes time, so initiate the conversation with the district's HR team well before your current status expires.
Clarify Sponsorship Intent Before Accepting an Offer
Not every principal or hiring coordinator will know the district's sponsorship policy off the top of their head. Ask HR directly whether your specific Teaching Assistant position qualifies for employment-based Green Card sponsorship before you accept an offer.
Use Migrate Mate to Find Open Positions
Teaching Assistant openings at Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools turn over frequently throughout the school year. Use Migrate Mate to filter for current openings at the district and identify roles where sponsorship has been pursued for similar positions.

Find Teaching Assistant at Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools sponsor H-1B visas for Teaching Assistants?
Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools primarily pursues employment-based Green Card sponsorship through the EB-2 and EB-3 categories for Teaching Assistant roles rather than H-1B visas. H-1B sponsorship is less common for paraprofessional positions in K-12 settings because the role's wage and degree requirements can make specialty occupation classification difficult to establish with USCIS.
Which visa types are commonly used for Teaching Assistant roles at Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools?
The most common pathway for Teaching Assistants at Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools is employment-based permanent residence through the EB-3 category, which covers skilled workers and positions requiring less than a bachelor's degree. Candidates with advanced degrees may qualify for EB-2. Both pathways require DOL PERM labor certification, which the district files on the employee's behalf after a period of employment.
What qualifications or experience are expected for Teaching Assistant positions at Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools?
Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools typically requires Teaching Assistants to hold at least an associate degree or 48 credit hours of college coursework, in line with North Carolina paraprofessional standards under the Every Student Succeeds Act. Experience working with school-age children, familiarity with special education support, and proficiency in classroom management are common expectations. Foreign credentials must be evaluated by a recognized agency to confirm equivalency.
How do I apply for Teaching Assistant jobs at Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools?
Applications are submitted through the district's online hiring portal. You'll create a candidate profile, upload your resume, and attach any required certifications or credential evaluations. Positions are posted at the school level, so searching by school type or geographic area within the district helps you find openings that align with your background. Migrate Mate is a good starting point to browse current Teaching Assistant openings at Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools filtered for visa sponsorship.
How do I know if Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools will sponsor my visa before I go through the hiring process?
The district's HR department handles sponsorship decisions centrally, not individual schools or principals. After receiving a conditional offer, request a direct conversation with HR to confirm whether the specific role is eligible for employment-based sponsorship. Asking early in writing creates a paper trail and helps both sides avoid investing time in a hire that cannot proceed without a clear immigration pathway.
