Verify your CDL meets federal standards
FedEx Freight requires a valid Commercial Driver's License before any offer moves forward. If your license was issued outside the U.S., confirm it's convertible under FMCSA standards, since the sponsorship process can't begin until you hold a qualifying domestic CDL.
Target terminals with consistent freight volume
FedEx Freight hires regionally, and sponsorship decisions often follow where operational demand is highest. Focus your applications on service centers in high-volume freight corridors rather than applying broadly, since those locations are more likely to justify the filing process.
Distinguish E-3 eligibility from H-1B requirements
Driver roles at FedEx Freight have been sponsored under both H-1B and E-3 pathways. If you're an Australian citizen, the E-3 avoids the annual lottery and can be filed year-round, which matters when you're working against a start date tied to a freight season.
Ask the recruiter about internal DOL filing timelines
PERM-based Green Card sponsorship under EB-2 or EB-3 requires a labor market test before USCIS filing. Ask your FedEx Freight recruiter early whether the role qualifies and whether the terminal has previously run PERM processes, so you're not surprised by a multi-year timeline.
Search sponsored Driver openings using Migrate Mate
Filtering for FedEx Freight Driver roles that have a verified sponsorship history saves time. Migrate Mate lets you browse open positions filtered by visa type and employer, so you can focus on terminals actively hiring sponsored drivers rather than guessing from the general careers page.
Align your offer letter timing with H-1B cap dates
If your pathway is cap-subject H-1B, FedEx Freight needs to register you in the USCIS lottery in March for an October 1 start. Receiving an offer in May means waiting a full year for the next registration window, so timing your application process to land an offer before February matters.

Find Driver at FedEx Freight JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does FedEx Freight sponsor H-1B visas for Drivers?
Yes, FedEx Freight has sponsored H-1B visas for Driver roles. The H-1B requires the position to qualify as a specialty occupation, which means the role must typically require at least a bachelor's degree in a specific field. For Driver positions, H-1B sponsorship is less common than for professional roles, but FedEx Freight has filed for this category. Confirming qualification with the recruiter before applying is the right first step.
How do I apply for Driver jobs at FedEx Freight?
You can apply through the FedEx careers portal or browse open Driver roles with verified sponsorship history on Migrate Mate, which filters positions by visa type and employer. When applying, flag your sponsorship needs early in the process. FedEx Freight's recruiting teams handle sponsorship at the terminal level, so connecting with the right regional contact speeds up the process significantly.
Which visa types are commonly used for Driver roles at FedEx Freight?
FedEx Freight has sponsored Drivers under H-1B, E-3, and EB-2 and EB-3 Green Card pathways. The E-3 is available exclusively to Australian citizens and bypasses the annual lottery, making it a practical first choice for eligible candidates. EB-3 is the most common Green Card route for skilled workers in transportation roles, though it involves a PERM labor certification process through DOL before USCIS filing.
What qualifications does FedEx Freight expect for sponsored Driver roles?
FedEx Freight expects candidates to hold a valid U.S. Commercial Driver's License, a clean driving record, and the ability to pass DOT physical and drug screening requirements. For sponsored roles, you'll also need to demonstrate legal work authorization or eligibility for the relevant visa category. Prior experience driving Class A vehicles in freight or LTL environments strengthens your application considerably.
How long does the visa sponsorship process take for a Driver role at FedEx Freight?
Timeline depends on the visa type. An E-3 can be processed at a U.S. consulate in two to four weeks once the employer has a certified Labor Condition Application from DOL. H-1B sponsorship tied to the annual cap means waiting until an October 1 start date at the earliest. EB-3 Green Card processing through PERM can take two or more years depending on your country of birth and USCIS processing backlogs.
