Get your CDL class matched early
United Rentals Driver roles frequently require a Class A or Class B CDL depending on equipment weight and route type. Confirm which class applies to the specific posting before applying, and have your license equivalency documentation ready if you hold a foreign commercial license.
Target branch locations with active openings
United Rentals operates hundreds of branches across the U.S., and Driver hiring is branch-specific, not centralized. Focus your applications on regions with multiple open Driver postings, as those locations are more likely to have the operational need and HR bandwidth to process sponsorship paperwork.
Understand how TN status applies to drivers
TN visas are occupation-specific and do not cover standard Driver roles for Canadian or Mexican nationals. If you are pursuing this route, confirm with the hiring team early whether your duties include a qualifying TN occupation component, rather than discovering the mismatch after an offer is extended.
Ask about DOT medical certification requirements upfront
Federal DOT regulations require commercial drivers to hold a valid Medical Examiner's Certificate. If you are in OPT or a status-dependent work period, clarify with the recruiter whether the company will initiate sponsorship before your current authorization expires, since DOT clearance adds time to onboarding.
Use Migrate Mate to filter Driver roles by sponsorship history
Not every United Rentals Driver posting leads to a sponsored hire. Use Migrate Mate to identify which locations and role types have an active sponsorship track record, so you can prioritize applications where a visa filing is a realistic outcome rather than a long-shot request.
Confirm EB-3 eligibility before the PERM stage
Driver roles at United Rentals can qualify under EB-3 for unskilled or skilled worker categories depending on CDL requirements. Before PERM recruitment begins, verify with the employer's immigration counsel which EB-3 subcategory your role falls under, as this affects the labor market test requirements and priority date.

Find Driver at United Rentals JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does United Rentals sponsor H-1B visas for Drivers?
United Rentals has sponsored H-1B visas across its workforce, but Driver roles present a structural challenge for H-1B sponsorship because H-1B status requires the position to qualify as a specialty occupation, meaning a job that normally requires a bachelor's degree in a specific field. Most Driver roles do not meet that standard, so H-1B is not the typical sponsorship path for this function. Other visa categories are more commonly used.
Which visa types are commonly used for Driver roles at United Rentals?
F-1 OPT and CPT can cover Driver work for eligible students during their authorized period. For longer-term sponsorship, EB-3 Green Card sponsorship through the PERM labor certification process is the most viable pathway for Driver positions, since the role qualifies under skilled or unskilled worker categories depending on CDL requirements. TN status does not apply to standard Driver duties.
What qualifications and experience does United Rentals expect for Driver roles?
Most Driver postings at United Rentals require a valid commercial driver's license, with the required class varying by vehicle and equipment type. A clean driving record and a current DOT Medical Examiner's Certificate are standard requirements. Experience operating heavy or construction equipment is frequently listed as preferred. Some locations require forklift certification or familiarity with delivery logistics in industrial or construction site environments.
How do I apply for Driver jobs at United Rentals?
Driver openings at United Rentals are posted by branch location and can be found through Migrate Mate, which filters listings by visa sponsorship history so you can focus on roles where sponsorship is a realistic outcome. When applying, confirm the CDL class required, review the DOT medical certification requirements, and make your need for sponsorship clear early in the process to avoid misalignment after an offer stage.
How do I understand the timeline for Green Card sponsorship through a Driver role at United Rentals?
EB-3 sponsorship through PERM is a multi-stage process that typically spans one to three years from the start of labor certification to I-140 approval, before priority date wait times factor in. PERM requires the employer to conduct a formal DOL-supervised recruitment process. If you are already in the U.S. on OPT or another work-authorized status, discuss with the employer's immigration counsel when PERM should be initiated relative to your current authorization expiry.
