Align your degree to the role
Business Development Associate positions at United Rentals typically favor degrees in business, marketing, or a related field. For H-1B eligibility, your degree must directly support the specialty occupation claim, so a general studies degree may complicate the petition.
Target branch-level openings strategically
United Rentals hires Business Development Associates by region and branch, not just at the corporate level. Applying to openings tied to high-growth construction markets increases your chances, since those branches carry stronger revenue pressure to fill roles quickly.
Search verified sponsoring roles on Migrate Mate
Filter Business Development Associate openings at United Rentals by visa type on Migrate Mate so you only spend time on positions where sponsorship is confirmed, not assumed. This saves weeks of back-and-forth with recruiters about eligibility.
Clarify sponsorship timing before offer stage
H-1B cap-subject petitions must be filed by April 1 for an October 1 start. If your OPT or grace period ends before October, ask United Rentals' HR team early whether they can support a cap-exempt filing or bridge your status through CPT or a change of status.
Document your rental industry experience concretely
United Rentals' DOL Labor Condition Applications for this role specify prevailing wage by geography. Frame prior sales or account management experience in construction, industrial, or equipment sectors in your resume to match the LCA job description as closely as possible.
Understand the PERM timeline if you want permanence
If long-term U.S. residency is your goal, United Rentals' sponsorship of EB-2 and EB-3 Green Cards involves a PERM labor certification through DOL, which can take one to two years before an I-140 petition is filed. Factor this into your career planning from day one.

Find Business Development Associate at United Rentals JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does United Rentals sponsor H-1B visas for Business Development Associates?
Yes, United Rentals has sponsored H-1B visas for Business Development Associate roles. The position must qualify as a specialty occupation under USCIS standards, which generally requires a bachelor's degree or higher in a relevant field such as business or marketing. Sponsorship availability can vary by region and specific opening, so confirming eligibility directly with the hiring team before deep into the interview process is worth doing.
How do I apply for Business Development Associate jobs at United Rentals?
Applications go through United Rentals' careers portal, where you can filter by role and location. To target openings confirmed for visa sponsorship, browse Business Development Associate listings at United Rentals on Migrate Mate, which surfaces positions by sponsorship type. Tailor your resume to emphasize equipment rental, construction, or B2B sales experience, as those are the backgrounds United Rentals consistently hires for this function.
Which visa types does United Rentals commonly sponsor for Business Development Associates?
United Rentals sponsors across several visa categories for this role, including H-1B for specialty occupation workers, F-1 OPT and CPT for students in their practical training periods, TN visas for Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying business or engineering fields, and J-1 for eligible exchange visitors. For candidates pursuing permanent residence, EB-2 and EB-3 Green Card sponsorship has also been part of United Rentals' international hiring.
What qualifications does United Rentals look for in Business Development Associates?
United Rentals typically looks for a bachelor's degree in business, marketing, or a related field, combined with demonstrated experience in B2B sales, account management, or client development. Industry familiarity with construction, infrastructure, or equipment rental gives candidates a meaningful edge. Strong territory management skills and the ability to build long-term contractor or project manager relationships are consistently emphasized across their openings for this role.
How do I time my application around visa processing for this role?
If you're on F-1 OPT, your start date needs to align with your remaining work authorization window. For H-1B cap-subject cases, USCIS opens registration in March for an October 1 start, so you'd need an offer in place by early April at the latest. TN visa status for Canadians can be obtained at the border with a job offer letter, making that pathway significantly faster than H-1B for eligible applicants.
