Obtain OEM certifications before applying
United Rentals technicians work across specific equipment brands, so manufacturer certifications from companies like JLG, Genie, or Skyjack strengthen your application and signal job-ready competency that supports the specialty occupation framing required for visa sponsorship.
Target branch locations with open technician requisitions
United Rentals operates across hundreds of branch locations, and sponsorship decisions are often tied to genuine local hiring need. Applying to branches with active technician postings, rather than submitting general interest, puts you in front of hiring managers who already have headcount approval.
Use Migrate Mate to filter sponsorship-confirmed technician openings
Not every United Rentals job posting flags visa sponsorship upfront. Use Migrate Mate to identify technician roles at United Rentals that align with your visa type, so you're targeting positions where sponsorship is a realistic outcome rather than an afterthought.
Clarify TN eligibility if you hold Canadian or Mexican citizenship
Technician roles grounded in a relevant engineering or scientific discipline may qualify under the TN visa category, which has no cap and no lottery. Confirm with United Rentals HR whether your specific role description meets DOL's USMCA occupation list before assuming H-1B is your only path.
Request a PERM timeline conversation during the offer stage
If you're targeting a Green Card pathway, ask United Rentals directly whether the technician role qualifies for EB-3 sponsorship and what their typical PERM filing timeline looks like. DOL's PERM process can take a year or more, so starting that conversation at offer stage, not months later, matters.
Document your hands-on experience in equipment categories United Rentals specializes in
USCIS scrutinizes whether a technician role genuinely requires a specialty occupation worker. A work history that maps directly to aerial work platforms, power generation, or fluid solutions equipment strengthens the I-129 petition and reduces the risk of a Request for Evidence.

Find Technician at United Rentals JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does United Rentals sponsor H-1B visas for Technicians?
Yes, United Rentals has sponsored H-1B visas for technician roles. Because H-1B petitions require the position to qualify as a specialty occupation, your application will be strongest when your role involves specialized equipment diagnostics or systems that typically require at least a bachelor's degree or equivalent in a relevant technical field. Documenting that connection clearly in your petition reduces the likelihood of a USCIS Request for Evidence.
Which visa types are commonly used for Technician roles at United Rentals?
Technician positions at United Rentals have been supported through H-1B, TN, F-1 OPT, F-1 CPT, J-1, and EB-2 or EB-3 Green Card sponsorship. F-1 OPT is common for recent graduates entering the role directly from a U.S. engineering or technology program. TN is worth exploring if you hold Canadian or Mexican citizenship and your role maps to a qualifying USMCA occupation category.
What qualifications or experience are expected for Technician roles at United Rentals?
United Rentals typically looks for hands-on diagnostic and repair experience with heavy equipment, aerial work platforms, or related industrial machinery. Manufacturer certifications, such as those from JLG, Genie, or Skyjack, carry meaningful weight. A background in mechanical or electrical systems, combined with experience reading schematics and performing preventive maintenance, aligns well with what branch-level technician roles require day to day.
How do I apply for Technician jobs at United Rentals?
You can browse and apply for Technician positions at United Rentals directly through their careers site or through Migrate Mate, which filters roles by visa sponsorship eligibility so you can confirm a position is relevant to your situation before applying. Focus on branch locations with active openings rather than submitting a general application, as hiring decisions for technician roles are typically made at the local level based on current workload and headcount.
How do I time my visa filing relative to starting a Technician role at United Rentals?
Timing depends on your current visa status. If you're on F-1 OPT, you can start work before your H-1B is approved, provided USCIS receives the petition before your OPT expires and you have a valid EAD. H-1B cap filings open in March for an October 1 start date, so aligning your offer timeline with that window matters. For TN status, approval can happen at a port of entry with same-day effect, which makes it faster if you qualify.
