Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding Technician Jobs at Thermo Fisher Scientific Jobs
Match your degree to the role description
Technician roles at Thermo Fisher often require a degree in biology, chemistry, or a related science field. USCIS evaluates specialty occupation eligibility on the degree-to-job match, so a generic science degree with no relevant coursework can create problems during H-1B adjudication.
Target site-specific openings over corporate postings
Thermo Fisher operates manufacturing and R&D sites across the U.S. with distinct hiring needs. Technician roles at a biologics facility in Carlsbad differ significantly from those at a diagnostics plant in Asheville, so filtering by site gives you a more accurate picture of what you're applying for.
Confirm OPT eligibility before your first interview
Many Technician openings at Thermo Fisher are eligible for F-1 OPT, including STEM OPT extensions for science and engineering graduates. Verify your graduation date against your OPT start window before applying so you can give the recruiter a clear authorization timeline during the offer stage.
Ask about TN classification early in the process
Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying scientific technician roles may be eligible for TN status, which has no lottery and no annual cap. Raise this with your Thermo Fisher recruiter before the offer letter is drafted so the correct visa pathway is built into the onboarding timeline.
Use Migrate Mate to find sponsored Technician openings
Technician roles that come with visa sponsorship are not always labeled clearly in job postings. Use Migrate Mate to filter Thermo Fisher Scientific openings by sponsorship type so you're only spending time on positions where your immigration situation is already accounted for.
Prepare for PERM documentation before your H-1B anniversary
If your role qualifies for EB-2 or EB-3 sponsorship, Thermo Fisher's immigration team typically initiates PERM labor certification with the DOL well before H-1B status expires. Gather your transcripts, employment records, and degree evaluations early so you're not causing delays when the process opens.

Find Technician at Thermo Fisher Scientific JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Thermo Fisher Scientific sponsor H-1B visas for Technicians?
Yes. Thermo Fisher Scientific has a consistent history of H-1B sponsorship for Technician roles across its U.S. operations in areas like laboratory analysis, quality control, and manufacturing support. The company works with immigration counsel to file H-1B petitions for qualifying roles, though sponsorship is evaluated on a case-by-case basis depending on the position and business unit.
Which visa types are commonly used for Technician roles at Thermo Fisher Scientific?
H-1B is the most common pathway for long-term sponsorship in Technician roles requiring a relevant science or engineering degree. F-1 OPT and STEM OPT extensions are widely used for recent graduates. TN status is an option for Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying scientific technician classifications. For permanent residency, Thermo Fisher has sponsored EB-2 and EB-3 Green Card petitions for eligible technical staff.
What qualifications are expected for Technician roles at Thermo Fisher Scientific?
Most Technician openings at Thermo Fisher require at least a bachelor's degree in biology, chemistry, biochemistry, or a related field, along with hands-on laboratory or manufacturing experience. Roles in quality control or instrument qualification often expect familiarity with GMP or GLP standards. Candidates with experience in cell culture, chromatography, or analytical instrumentation are particularly competitive for life sciences manufacturing sites.
How do I apply for Technician jobs at Thermo Fisher Scientific?
You can browse and apply for Technician roles directly through Thermo Fisher's careers portal. To find positions that include visa sponsorship, use Migrate Mate to filter Thermo Fisher Scientific openings by visa type, which saves time compared to manually reviewing individual job descriptions. When you apply, be upfront about your visa status and timeline in the initial screening so recruiters can assess sponsorship feasibility early.
How do I plan my timeline if I need Thermo Fisher to sponsor my H-1B?
H-1B cap-subject petitions are filed in April for an October 1 start date, which means you need an offer in hand by late March at the latest. USCIS runs a lottery when registrations exceed the annual cap of 85,000. If you're on F-1 OPT, your start date can be bridged to October using your remaining OPT authorization, so aligning your offer timing with the cap filing window is critical.
