Align Your Credentials to GMP Standards
Thermo Fisher's manufacturing sites operate under Good Manufacturing Practice regulations, so certifications like Six Sigma, OSHA process safety, or hands-on GMP cleanroom experience will strengthen your profile before you apply.
Target Sites With Active Production Roles
Thermo Fisher operates biologics, drug product, and analytical instrument facilities across the U.S. Filter your search by site type, since bioprocessing and pharmaceutical manufacturing locations tend to post the most consistent openings for sponsored candidates.
Clarify Your OPT Cap-Gap Timeline Early
If you're on F-1 OPT, confirm whether your STEM extension covers the H-1B cap-gap period. USCIS allows continued work authorization during the gap if your employer filed before your OPT expired, so align your start date accordingly.
Expect a Multi-Stage Technical Interview Process
Manufacturing interviews at Thermo Fisher typically include a behavioral screen followed by technical rounds assessing process troubleshooting, deviation management, and familiarity with batch records. Prepare specific examples from regulated manufacturing environments.
Confirm LCA Filing Scope Before Accepting an Offer
Once you receive an offer, ask HR which facility the Labor Condition Application will be filed against. DOL requires the LCA to reflect the actual work location, and Thermo Fisher's distributed site network means your assigned plant determines the prevailing wage level.
Browse Open Roles Using Migrate Mate
Manufacturing positions at Thermo Fisher rotate frequently across facilities. Use Migrate Mate to filter for current openings by role type and sponsorship eligibility so you're applying to active requisitions rather than evergreen postings.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Thermo Fisher Scientific sponsor H-1B visas for Manufacturing roles?
Yes, Thermo Fisher Scientific sponsors H-1B visas for Manufacturing positions, particularly in bioprocessing, pharmaceutical production, and process engineering. The company has a dedicated global mobility function that handles petition filing through USCIS. Sponsorship is most consistently offered for roles requiring specialized technical knowledge tied to a relevant bachelor's degree or higher, which satisfies the H-1B specialty occupation requirement.
How do I apply for Manufacturing jobs at Thermo Fisher Scientific?
Applications go through Thermo Fisher's careers portal, where roles are listed by site and function. Filter by Manufacturing or Operations to find relevant postings. You can also use Migrate Mate to browse current openings filtered by sponsorship eligibility. During the application, be specific about your process background and any regulated industry experience, as hiring managers assess technical fit before sponsorship conversations begin.
Which visa types does Thermo Fisher Scientific commonly use for Manufacturing positions?
Thermo Fisher sponsors H-1B visas for degree-qualified Manufacturing professionals and supports TN visa status for eligible Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying engineering or science roles. The company also works with F-1 OPT and CPT for students entering production or quality functions, and pursues EB-2 and EB-3 Green Card sponsorship for longer-tenured employees in specialized or skilled manufacturing roles.
What qualifications does Thermo Fisher Scientific expect for sponsored Manufacturing roles?
Most sponsored Manufacturing roles require a bachelor's degree in chemical engineering, biochemistry, mechanical engineering, or a closely related field. Hands-on experience in GMP-regulated environments, familiarity with batch record systems, and exposure to deviation or CAPA processes are frequently listed as requirements. Senior roles may expect prior experience in biologics, drug product manufacturing, or analytical instrument production specifically.
How do I understand the sponsorship timeline for a Manufacturing offer at Thermo Fisher Scientific?
For H-1B sponsorship, Thermo Fisher must file a certified Labor Condition Application with DOL before submitting the USCIS petition. If you're subject to the annual H-1B cap, your start date will be October 1 following a successful lottery registration in March. STEM OPT holders can begin working immediately under cap-gap protection if the petition is filed before OPT expires, which is a common path for Manufacturing candidates joining mid-year.
