INTRODUCTION
The Manufacturing Engineering team at Zoox bridges the gap between vehicle architecture and scaled, physical production by planning, developing, and implementing our advanced assembly lines. We thrive on a collaborative culture marked by openness, innovation, and supportive technical problem-solving to help make cities safer, smarter, and more sustainable.
As a key technical owner, you will transition complex battery architectures from prototype environments into scaled, automated production lines. This role offers deep professional growth as you collaborate across hardware, software, and safety teams to drive the manufacturing strategy for our proprietary energy storage systems.
This position requires ~25% travel.
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Define and execute the manufacturing strategy, assembly sequences, and tooling requirements for high-voltage battery packs and modules.
- Lead factory layout planning, clean room specifications, and specialized environmental controls to ensure safe and efficient component handling.
- Develop, validate, and standardize critical battery manufacturing processes, focusing on precision laser welding and automated cell handling.
- Implement rigorous End-of-Line testing procedures, including high-potential and leak testing, while enforcing strict high-voltage safety and electrostatic discharge protocols.
- Partner with Battery and Powertrain design engineering teams during early development phases to optimize layouts for automated assembly, thermal management, and serviceability.
- Author comprehensive engineering standards, process failure mode analyses, and technical requirements for automated production lines.
- Manage technical relationships with tier-1 equipment suppliers and integrators from initial concept through factory acceptance testing and final line commissioning.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
- At least 8 years of manufacturing engineering experience, with a focus on launching electric vehicle battery pack or module assembly lines, or equivalent experience.
- Technical expertise in battery-specific manufacturing processes alongside high-voltage safety standards and electrostatic discharge compliance protocols.
- Experience generating equipment specifications and managing technical deliverables with tier-1 integrators, including a willingness to travel for vendor buyoffs and tool installations.
- Proficiency with engineering design and layout tools such as CATIA, SolidWorks, or AutoCAD.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience scaling manufacturing operations within a greenfield or brownfield automotive or energy storage environment.
- Familiarity with Product Lifecycle Management and Manufacturing Execution Systems platforms within an automated production facility.
- Experience utilizing factory simulation software to model line flow and optimize operational efficiency.
COMPENSATION
- Base Salary Range: There are three major components to compensation for this position: salary, Amazon Restricted Stock Units (RSUs), and Zoox Stock Appreciation Rights. A sign-on bonus may be offered as part of the compensation package. The listed range applies only to the base salary. Compensation will vary based on geographic location and level. Tips for Finding Manufacturing Jobs at Zoox
Align your credentials to specialty occupation standards
Zoox's Manufacturing roles often require a degree in mechanical, industrial, or manufacturing engineering. Make sure your credentials clearly map to the specific role title you're targeting, since USCIS evaluates specialty occupation on a position-by-position basis.
Target roles tied to hardware development
Zoox's manufacturing function is deeply integrated with its vehicle development pipeline, so roles in production engineering, tooling, and NPI are more likely to have established sponsorship pathways than general assembly or logistics positions.
Clarify your visa category before the offer stage
Zoox sponsors multiple visa types including H-1B, E-3, TN, and F-1 OPT. Knowing which category fits your nationality and status before negotiations start lets you have a sharper conversation with the recruiting team and avoids delays after an offer is extended.
Time your OPT application to cover onboarding
If you're on F-1 status, file your OPT EAD application with USCIS at least 90 days before your program end date. Manufacturing start dates at hardware companies like Zoox can be rigid, and a gap in work authorization will push your start date back.
Understand the LCA's role in your offer timeline
Before Zoox can file your H-1B or E-3 petition, the Department of Labor must certify a Labor Condition Application. This step takes at least seven business days and happens before USCIS sees anything, so factor it into your expected start date.
Find open Manufacturing roles on Migrate Mate
Search Migrate Mate to filter Zoox Manufacturing openings by visa type, so you're only applying to roles that match your authorization status. It removes the guesswork of checking sponsorship willingness on a listing-by-listing basis.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Zoox sponsor H-1B visas for Manufacturing roles?
Yes, Zoox sponsors H-1B visas for Manufacturing positions. The company has a consistent history of filing H-1B petitions for engineering-heavy roles in its manufacturing function. To qualify, your role must meet USCIS's specialty occupation standard, which generally requires a bachelor's degree or higher in a directly related field such as mechanical or manufacturing engineering.
How do I apply for Manufacturing jobs at Zoox?
You can search and apply for Zoox Manufacturing roles directly through Migrate Mate, which surfaces open positions filtered by visa sponsorship type so you can focus on roles that match your work authorization. From there, applications route to Zoox's recruiting team. Roles in production engineering and NPI tend to move quickly, so applying as early as a listing goes live is practical.
Which visa types does Zoox commonly sponsor for Manufacturing roles?
Zoox sponsors a broad range of visa categories for Manufacturing, including H-1B, H-1B1 visa, E-3 visa, TN visa, F-1 OPT, F-1 CPT, J-1 visa, and employment-based Green Cards through EB-2 and EB-3 classifications. The right category depends on your nationality, current status, and role level. Australian citizens, for example, may be eligible for the E-3 visa, which has no lottery and faster processing than the H-1B.
What qualifications does Zoox typically expect for Manufacturing roles?
Zoox's Manufacturing team focuses on autonomous vehicle hardware, so roles generally require a degree in mechanical, industrial, or manufacturing engineering. Hands-on experience with production processes, tolerance analysis, or NPI is common in job descriptions. For senior roles, prior experience in automotive or robotics manufacturing is frequently referenced. Your degree field needs to align specifically with the role to satisfy USCIS's specialty occupation criteria.
How do I plan my timeline if Zoox extends a Manufacturing offer with visa sponsorship?
Timeline depends on your visa category. For H-1B, the annual cap means you can only start on October 1 if you're cap-subject, requiring a lottery registration in March. E-3 and TN petitions can be filed year-round with faster turnaround. F-1 OPT requires USCIS EAD approval before your start date. Build at least 30 to 90 days of buffer after an offer to allow for Department of Labor LCA certification and USCIS processing.
