Align Your Credentials to Cummins Roles
Cummins Manufacturing roles often require degrees in mechanical, industrial, or electrical engineering. If your credential is from outside the U.S., get a formal equivalency evaluation before applying so hiring managers aren't left guessing about your qualification level.
Target Plant Locations With Active Hiring
Cummins operates manufacturing facilities across Indiana, Ohio, and other Midwest states. Focus your applications on sites with open production or engineering roles, since sponsorship decisions happen at the business unit level and active facilities move faster through the process.
Search Cummins Manufacturing Openings on Migrate Mate
Filtering by employer and role type saves hours of manual searching. Use Migrate Mate to surface current Cummins Manufacturing openings filtered by visa type, so you're applying to roles where sponsorship is already expected rather than hoping it comes up in conversation.
Clarify Your OPT Timeline Early in Interviews
If you're on F-1 OPT, tell the recruiter your STEM OPT extension eligibility upfront. Manufacturing and engineering degrees typically qualify, giving Cummins up to three years of work authorization before an H-1B petition is needed, which reduces urgency for the employer.
Understand How PERM Fits Long-Term Sponsorship
For Green Card sponsorship through EB-2 or EB-3, Cummins would need to run a PERM labor certification with DOL. Manufacturing roles often have well-defined job duties that make prevailing wage determinations more straightforward, but the process takes time, so raise permanent residency early in negotiations.
Prepare for H-1B Timing Constraints at Offer Stage
If you're not on OPT and need an H-1B, the cap registration window opens in March and employment can't start before October 1. Cummins recruiters familiar with sponsorship know this, but confirming your status timeline prevents misaligned start date expectations during the offer stage.

Find Manufacturing at Cummins JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Cummins sponsor H-1B visas for Manufacturing roles?
Yes, Cummins sponsors H-1B visas for qualifying Manufacturing positions. Roles in production engineering, quality, and operations that require a relevant bachelor's degree or higher are typically eligible for H-1B sponsorship. If you're already on OPT or another work-authorized status, Cummins can often proceed with hiring before the H-1B cap cycle.
How do I apply for Manufacturing jobs at Cummins?
Apply directly through the Cummins careers portal, where Manufacturing roles are listed by location and function. You can also browse current Cummins Manufacturing openings filtered by visa type on Migrate Mate, which makes it easier to identify roles where sponsorship is actively expected. Tailor your resume to the specific facility and engineering discipline listed in the job posting.
Which visa types does Cummins commonly use for Manufacturing roles?
Cummins uses H-1B for most professional Manufacturing hires requiring a specialty occupation degree. F-1 OPT and CPT are common entry points for students and recent graduates. TN visas are an option for Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying engineering roles. For longer-term employees, Cummins also supports Green Card sponsorship through EB-2 and EB-3 categories via the PERM labor certification process.
What qualifications does Cummins expect for sponsored Manufacturing roles?
Most sponsored Manufacturing roles at Cummins require a bachelor's degree or higher in mechanical, industrial, electrical, or manufacturing engineering. Hands-on experience with production systems, lean manufacturing, or quality management is a strong differentiator. Roles closer to the shop floor may require demonstrated proficiency with specific equipment or certifications relevant to diesel, power generation, or filtration systems.
How long does the visa sponsorship process take for a Cummins Manufacturing role?
Timeline depends heavily on your current status. If you're on F-1 STEM OPT, Cummins can hire you immediately and file an H-1B during the next cap registration window in March. Standard H-1B processing takes three to five months after USCIS accepts the petition, though premium processing can shorten that to two to three weeks. Green Card sponsorship through PERM takes significantly longer, often two years or more from filing to approval.
