Align your credentials with Cummins technical standards
Cummins prioritizes diesel engine diagnostics, electronic controls, and preventative maintenance experience. Certifications like ASE or OEM-specific training on heavy-duty engines strengthen your profile significantly before you apply.
Target service center and fleet account postings
Cummins posts Field Service Technician openings tied to specific service branches or major fleet accounts. Roles supporting industrial or power generation clients often carry stronger sponsorship precedent than general dealership-level positions.
Use Migrate Mate to filter Cummins Field Service openings
Sponsorship-eligible postings at Cummins aren't always labeled clearly on general job boards. Migrate Mate filters specifically for visa-sponsored roles, so you can identify live Field Service Technician openings without wading through ineligible listings.
Request the LCA before signing your offer letter
The Labor Condition Application must be certified by DOL before your employer files Form I-129 with USCIS. Confirm that Cummins has initiated this step early so you can plan your start date around realistic processing windows.
Document field hours and equipment-specific experience precisely
USCIS scrutinizes specialty occupation claims for technician roles. A detailed employment history listing specific engine families, diagnostic tools, and customer environments you've worked on builds a stronger petition than a general job description.

Find Field Service Technician at Cummins JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Cummins sponsor H-1B visas for Field Service Technicians?
Yes, Cummins sponsors H-1B visas for Field Service Technician roles, though the position must qualify as a specialty occupation under USCIS guidelines. Roles requiring a bachelor's degree in a relevant engineering or technical field, combined with specialized diagnostics experience, typically meet that threshold. Approval depends on how the specific position is structured and documented in the petition.
How do I apply for Field Service Technician jobs at Cummins?
You can browse open Field Service Technician positions on the Cummins careers portal or use Migrate Mate to filter specifically for visa-sponsored openings. Applications typically require a resume outlining hands-on engine or power systems experience, relevant certifications, and your work authorization status. Tailoring your application to the specific service branch or product line in the posting improves your chances of moving forward.
Which visa types does Cummins commonly use for Field Service Technician hires?
Cummins sponsors H-1B and Green Card pathways including EB-2 and EB-3 for qualifying technicians. F-1 OPT and CPT are used for recent graduates entering the field, and J-1 is available for exchange-based placements. Canadian and Mexican nationals with relevant backgrounds should also evaluate the TN visa, which avoids the H-1B lottery under the USMCA.
What qualifications does Cummins expect for sponsored Field Service Technician roles?
Cummins generally looks for hands-on experience with diesel engines, electronic diagnostic tools, and preventative maintenance programs. A degree or diploma in mechanical, electrical, or automotive engineering strengthens your petition considerably. Practical experience with specific Cummins product lines, fleet or industrial customers, and field service environments is weighted heavily alongside formal credentials.
How long does the sponsorship process take for a Field Service Technician role at Cummins?
For H-1B petitions, USCIS standard processing runs several months after the April lottery. Premium processing reduces adjudication to about 15 business days once the petition is filed. The Labor Condition Application with DOL must be certified first, which typically takes seven business days. Plan for a minimum of several weeks between offer acceptance and an authorized start date, and longer if Green Card sponsorship is part of the arrangement.
