Certify Your Diesel or Electrical Credentials First
Cummins prioritizes candidates with documented technical certifications, such as ASE or OEM-specific training. Having these credentials verified and ready before you apply strengthens your case for both the role and the H-1B specialty occupation determination.
Target Cummins Facilities Near Distribution Hubs
Cummins concentrates Service Technician openings around its manufacturing and distribution centers in Indiana, North Carolina, and the Midwest. Focusing your search on these regions increases your chances of finding roles where sponsorship pipelines are already established.
Clarify Sponsorship Scope During the Offer Stage
Before signing an offer, confirm whether Cummins will cover premium processing and attorney fees. Some manufacturing employers cover legal costs but not expedite fees, which affects your start date if cap-subject H-1B timing is tight.
Align Your Resume to DOL Prevailing Wage Descriptions
Cummins files Labor Condition Applications with the DOL that define the role's wage level. Matching your resume language to the skill requirements for Level II or III technician classifications reduces the risk of a specialty occupation challenge at USCIS.
Use Migrate Mate to Filter Open Roles by Visa Type
Not every Cummins Service Technician posting is open to sponsored candidates. Use Migrate Mate to filter current openings by the visa categories Cummins actively supports, so you're applying to roles where sponsorship is already in scope.
Plan Around H-1B Cap Timing If You're on OPT
If you're working at Cummins on F-1 OPT, your employer must submit your H-1B registration in March for an October 1 start. Confirm with HR at least six months out whether they intend to file, so you're not caught in a gap between OPT expiration and H-1B approval.

Find Service Technician at Cummins JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Cummins sponsor H-1B visas for Service Technicians?
Yes, Cummins sponsors H-1B visas for Service Technician roles where the position meets the specialty occupation standard under USCIS criteria. Because these roles require specialized technical knowledge of engine systems, power generation, or emissions controls, they typically qualify. Sponsorship decisions are made at the business unit level, so confirm eligibility directly with the recruiter for the specific facility you're applying to.
How do I apply for Service Technician jobs at Cummins?
Apply directly through Cummins' careers portal, or use Migrate Mate to browse current Service Technician openings filtered by visa sponsorship eligibility. When you apply, tailor your resume to the specific product line listed in the posting, such as engine diagnostics, power generation, or filtration systems, since Cummins hires across distinct technical divisions with different skill requirements.
Which visa types does Cummins commonly use for Service Technician roles?
Cummins sponsors H-1B visas for qualified Service Technicians and supports F-1 OPT and CPT for students in engineering or technical programs completing practical training. TN visas are an option for Canadian and Mexican nationals in eligible occupations. For longer-term pathways, Cummins has filed PERM-based Green Card petitions through the EB-2 and EB-3 categories for technician roles requiring specialized skills.
What qualifications does Cummins expect for sponsored Service Technician positions?
Cummins generally looks for candidates with an associate's or bachelor's degree in mechanical, electrical, or diesel technology, or equivalent OEM-recognized certifications. Hands-on experience diagnosing and repairing heavy-duty engines or generator sets strengthens your application. For sponsored roles, your educational credentials must align with the specialty occupation requirement USCIS applies to H-1B petitions, so documentation of your degree equivalency matters if you studied outside the United States.
How do I estimate the timeline from job offer to starting work on a sponsored visa?
For H-1B cap-subject petitions, the timeline runs from April registration through an October 1 start date at the earliest, roughly six months. If you're already in the U.S. on F-1 OPT, you may be eligible to continue working under the cap-gap rule while your petition is pending. For TN visas, Canadian nationals can receive approval at the border in a single day, making that pathway significantly faster for eligible roles.
