Align Your Certifications to Cummins Standards
Cummins prioritizes technicians with diesel or heavy equipment credentials. Getting ASE certifications, particularly in diesel engines or electrical systems, signals direct job readiness and gives hiring managers a concrete basis to justify sponsorship for a specialized role.
Target Facilities with Active Manufacturing Operations
Cummins operates engine and component plants across the Midwest and South. Applying directly to plant-based Technician roles, rather than field service positions, puts you in front of locations where workforce demand is steadier and sponsorship decisions move faster.
Search Verified Sponsoring Employers on Migrate Mate
Browse Cummins Technician openings on Migrate Mate to confirm which roles are actively tied to visa sponsorship. Filtering by role and visa type saves time and focuses your applications on positions where the process is already in motion.
Understand How TN Status Applies to Technicians
If you hold Canadian or Mexican citizenship, TN classification covers certain industrial engineer and engineering technologist categories. Confirm with Cummins HR that your specific Technician role maps to a qualifying TN occupation before relying on this path.
Clarify Sponsorship Scope Before Accepting an Offer
Some Cummins offers cover H-1B filing fees but not premium processing. Before signing, ask HR explicitly whether they file premium processing, who absorbs attorney fees, and whether they support Green Card sponsorship through PERM after your initial visa period.

Find Technician at Cummins JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Cummins sponsor H-1B visas for Technicians?
Yes, Cummins sponsors H-1B visas for Technician roles, particularly where the position requires specialized knowledge in diesel systems, emissions technology, or powertrain diagnostics that qualifies as a specialty occupation under USCIS standards. Sponsorship decisions are made at the business unit level, so availability can vary by facility and specific role. Roles that map clearly to a degree requirement in a relevant engineering or technical field tend to move through the process more smoothly.
How do I apply for Technician jobs at Cummins?
Apply through Cummins' careers portal and tailor your application to the specific facility and product line listed in the posting. Highlighting relevant certifications, equipment experience, and any prior U.S. work authorization history strengthens your profile. You can also browse open Technician roles at Cummins with confirmed sponsorship on Migrate Mate, which filters positions by visa type so you can focus on roles where sponsorship is already on the table.
Which visa types does Cummins commonly use for Technician roles?
Cummins uses H-1B for Technician roles that meet specialty occupation requirements, TN for qualifying Canadian and Mexican nationals in engineering technologist categories, and F-1 OPT and CPT for students gaining hands-on experience before cap-subject sponsorship. For longer-term pathways, Cummins has sponsored EB-2 and EB-3 Green Cards through the PERM labor certification process with the Department of Labor, typically for technicians who have demonstrated sustained performance over multiple visa cycles.
What qualifications does Cummins expect from Technician candidates seeking sponsorship?
Cummins typically looks for a degree or formal training in mechanical, electrical, or automotive technology, combined with hands-on experience on diesel engines, emissions systems, or precision manufacturing equipment. ASE certifications and familiarity with Cummins-specific diagnostic software strengthen your application considerably. For sponsorship to proceed, the role generally needs to demonstrate that a specific technical background is required, not just preferred, which is the threshold USCIS uses to evaluate specialty occupation status.
How do I get the timing right when targeting Cummins for H-1B sponsorship?
The H-1B cap lottery opens in March each year for an October 1 start date. If you are on F-1 OPT, starting at Cummins at least six months before the registration window gives HR enough time to build the sponsorship case internally and work with outside counsel. If you miss the cap, Cummins can apply for an October start and keep you on OPT in the meantime, provided your authorized period has not expired and USCIS has received your petition before your OPT end date.
