INTRODUCTION
The End-to-End (E2E) Feature and Homologation team brings systems engineering focus and discipline to Zoox mobility-as-a-service deployment and operations. We are systems engineers working with key business stakeholders to define and deliver remarkable product capabilities that span across Vehicle, Autonomy, and Operations segments. We partner with the systems teams from each domain by leveraging their deep technical knowledge, implementation expertise, and validation techniques to deliver a fully verified product capability. The result is E2E ownership of a world class mobility service. Systems Engineers are the champions of their feature domains, which cut across Vehicle, Autonomy, and Operations segments of the Zoox mobility service. You will be responsible for the entire product lifecycle for these feature domains and will forge strong relationships with internal stakeholders (Product, Safety, Operations, Legal, etc.) and segment-specific systems engineering departments to deliver: design solutions, systems engineering documentation, multi-quarter capability plans, verification plans, and debug support.
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
In This Role, You Will
- Work closely with Product, Safety, Operations, and Legal to define integrated product features. Use data and simulations to support the proposal. Deliver presentations that convey the business need, the problem statement, and the proposed solution.
- Lead the cross-functional team to deliver the integrated features, shepherding these features throughout the entire V cycle by working closely with implementation and validation teams.
- Create and maintain feature roadmaps spanning: Hardware, Software, Operations, IT, Safety, Manufacturing, and Validation Teams.
- Create and maintain high-quality and verifiable feature requirements, decomposing input from stakeholders to drive clarity and precision for systems specifications.
- Create and maintain MBSE models for new features and use the model to identify additional requirements and edge cases.
- Lead feature-level triage with cross-functional stakeholders for bugs or reported issues.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- 10+ years of engineering work experience.
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or Physics.
- Demonstrated ability to design complex systems with multiple software and multiple hardware systems.
- Demonstrated ability to deliver strong technical documentation (context diagrams, requirement decomposition, presentations).
- Experience with systems simulation.
- Strong understanding of hardware and software development processes.
- Proven leadership, organization, and communication skills.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- MS or PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, or Physics.
- Experience designing fail-safe and fault-tolerant systems.
- Experience with software development and architecture principles.
- Experience with ECUs, electrical integration, and log analysis.
- Experience with requirements management tools (Polarion, DOORS, JAMA, etc).
- Experience with MBSE tools (Cameo, Magicdraw, Catia Magic, etc).
COMPENSATION
- Base Salary Range: $187,000 - $225,000 a year
There are three major components to compensation for this position: salary, Amazon Restricted Stock Units (RSUs), and Zoox Stock Appreciation Rights. A sign-on bonus may be offered as part of the compensation package. The listed range applies only to the base salary. Compensation will vary based on geographic location and level. Leveling, as well as positioning within a level, is determined by a range of factors, including, but not limited to, a candidate's relevant years of experience, domain knowledge, and interview performance. The salary range listed in this posting is representative of the range of levels Zoox is considering for this position. Zoox also offers a comprehensive package of benefits, including paid time off (e.g. sick leave, vacation, bereavement), unpaid time off, Zoox Stock Appreciation Rights, Amazon RSUs, health insurance, long-term care insurance, long-term and short-term disability insurance, and life insurance.
We may use artificial intelligence (AI) tools to support parts of the hiring process, such as reviewing applications, analyzing resumes, or assessing responses. These tools assist our recruitment team but do not replace human judgment. Final hiring decisions are ultimately made by humans. Align your credentials to functional safety standards
Zoox's Systems Engineering roles frequently require familiarity with ISO 26262 or related functional safety frameworks. Documenting your hands-on experience with FMEA, HARA, or safety case development strengthens your application before you ever reach a recruiter.
Target roles by subsystem not just title
Zoox posts Systems Engineer openings across perception, motion planning, vehicle dynamics, and hardware-software integration. Applying to the subsystem that matches your background signals fit more clearly than targeting a generic posting.
Use Migrate Mate to filter open Systems Engineer roles at Zoox
Sponsorship-confirmed job listings for Systems Engineer roles at Zoox are searchable by visa type on Migrate Mate, so you can prioritize applications where your category is already supported before investing time in the process.
Prepare for DOL prevailing wage requirements before negotiating
For H-1B and E-3 filings, your offer must meet the DOL-certified prevailing wage for Systems Engineers in the San Francisco Bay Area. Understanding wage level tiers means you can evaluate whether an offer will clear that threshold without asking the employer directly.
Map your application timeline around H-1B cap deadlines
If you need cap-subject H-1B sponsorship, USCIS registration opens each March and employment can begin October 1 at the earliest. Factor that seven-plus month window into your job search so you're not accepting an offer Zoox can't activate in time.
Systems Engineer at Zoox jobs are hiring across the US. Find yours.
Find Systems Engineer at Zoox JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Zoox sponsor H-1B visas for Systems Engineers?
Yes, Zoox sponsors H-1B visas for Systems Engineer roles. They participate in the annual USCIS H-1B cap registration process and have a demonstrated history of filing across engineering functions. If you're currently on OPT or another status, Zoox can also bridge you to H-1B status once a cap slot is secured, subject to the October 1 start date.
How do I apply for Systems Engineer jobs at Zoox?
Open Systems Engineer positions at Zoox are posted on their careers site, organized by engineering domain. You can also browse sponsorship-confirmed Zoox roles filtered by your visa type on Migrate Mate. Tailor your application to the specific subsystem, highlight relevant systems-level experience in autonomous or safety-critical environments, and be ready to confirm your visa situation with the recruiter early in the process.
Which visa types does Zoox commonly use for Systems Engineer roles?
Zoox sponsors a broad range of visa categories for Systems Engineers, including H-1B, H-1B1 (for Chilean and Singaporean nationals), E-3 (for Australian citizens), TN (for Canadian and Mexican nationals with qualifying engineering credentials), F-1 OPT and CPT for recent graduates, J-1, and employment-based Green Cards through EB-2 and EB-3 pathways. The right category depends on your nationality, education level, and timing.
What qualifications does Zoox expect for Systems Engineer roles?
Zoox Systems Engineer roles typically require a bachelor's degree or higher in mechanical, electrical, aerospace, or computer engineering. Hands-on experience with model-based systems engineering, requirements decomposition, verification and validation, or functional safety frameworks like ISO 26262 is frequently listed. Roles tied to hardware-software integration often expect exposure to embedded systems or real-time operating environments, reflecting Zoox's full-stack vehicle development approach.
How do I time my job search at Zoox around my visa situation?
If you're on F-1 OPT, you can start immediately and Zoox can file for H-1B sponsorship during the next cap cycle. If you need cap-subject H-1B status from scratch, align your offer timeline so the USCIS registration window in March is reachable. E-3 and TN applicants have more flexibility since those categories aren't lottery-based, but your employer still needs a certified Labor Condition Application from the DOL before you start.
