Align your credentials to automotive systems domains
Ford's Systems Engineer roles increasingly center on ADAS, EV powertrain integration, and vehicle software architecture. Tailor your resume to reflect experience in at least one of these domains, using terminology from Ford's active job postings.
Target Ford's electrification and software programs
Ford's Model e division and connected vehicle programs have concentrated demand for systems engineers. Applying directly to those program areas improves your chances of landing with a team that actively sponsors and has established hiring pipelines for international engineers.
Prepare your degree equivalency documentation early
Ford's H-1B petitions for Systems Engineers require proof the role meets specialty occupation standards. If your degree is from outside the U.S., get a credential evaluation from a NACES-approved service before the offer stage to avoid delays during USCIS filing.
Clarify your OPT or CPT timeline with the recruiter
Ford sponsors F-1 OPT and CPT for engineering roles, but work authorization start dates need to align with your program end date and any STEM OPT extension window. Confirm this explicitly with the recruiter before accepting an offer to avoid a gap in authorization.
Understand how Ford's PERM process affects your Green Card timeline
For EB-2 or EB-3 sponsorship, Ford must complete a PERM labor certification with the DOL before filing your immigrant petition. This process can take 12 to 18 months, so clarify whether Ford initiates PERM for your role category and at what tenure point.
Use Migrate Mate to filter active Ford Systems Engineer openings
Finding visa-sponsored Systems Engineer roles at Ford across its many divisions is time-consuming without the right filter. Migrate Mate lets you search Ford's open positions specifically by visa type, so you can focus applications where sponsorship is confirmed.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Ford Motor Company sponsor H-1B visas for Systems Engineers?
Yes, Ford Motor Company sponsors H-1B visas for Systems Engineers. Ford's engineering divisions, including its EV and software programs, have a consistent track record of filing H-1B petitions for this role. To qualify, the position must meet USCIS specialty occupation standards, which Ford's Systems Engineer roles generally satisfy given the degree requirements involved.
How do I apply for Systems Engineer jobs at Ford Motor Company?
Apply through Ford's careers portal at careers.ford.com, where you can filter by job function and location. Migrate Mate also aggregates Ford's open Systems Engineer positions filtered by visa sponsorship type, which makes it easier to identify roles where sponsorship is available before investing time in a full application.
Which visa types does Ford Motor Company commonly use for Systems Engineers?
Ford sponsors H-1B, E-3 visa (for Australian citizens), TN visa (for Canadian and Mexican nationals), and F-1 OPT and CPT for Systems Engineer roles. For long-term permanent residency, Ford also supports EB-2 and EB-3 Green Card pathways through PERM labor certification filed with the DOL, typically for engineers in established full-time positions.
What qualifications does Ford look for in Systems Engineer candidates?
Ford typically requires a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, computer science, or a related field. For H-1B purposes, the degree must be in a field directly related to the role. Hands-on experience with systems modeling tools, MBSE frameworks, or domain knowledge in areas like ADAS, embedded controls, or EV architecture significantly strengthens your profile for Ford's current program priorities.
How long does the visa sponsorship process take for a Systems Engineer role at Ford?
For H-1B, Ford must file between April 1 and the cap lottery window, with employment starting October 1 at the earliest. E-3 and TN processing can move faster, often within a few weeks of an offer. PERM-based Green Card sponsorship runs 12 to 24 months from initiation through USCIS approval, depending on DOL processing times and any audits.
