Align your resume to Google's SRE framework
Google distinguishes Systems Engineers from Software Engineers by emphasizing reliability, scalability, and infrastructure ownership. Tailor your resume to reflect SLOs, incident response, and distributed systems experience rather than pure software development to pass Google's resume screeners.
Target teams with persistent headcount needs
Google's infrastructure, networking, and cloud platform teams hire Systems Engineers year-round, not just during university recruitment cycles. Applying directly to these organizations improves your odds of landing a role outside the H-1B cap season scramble.
Browse open Systems Engineer roles on Migrate Mate
Migrate Mate filters Google's open Systems Engineer positions by visa type, so you can see which specific roles are actively sponsoring H-1B, H-1B1, or E-3 visas before you apply, saving you from pursuing postings that won't support your situation.
Prepare for Google's technical interview loop early
Google's Systems Engineer interviews include system design rounds focused on large-scale distributed architecture. Practicing with real-world scenarios involving load balancing, fault tolerance, and capacity planning directly maps to what interviewers assess at this level.
Understand Google's LCA filing obligations before you start
Once you accept an offer, Google must file a Labor Condition Application with the DOL certifying your prevailing wage before USCIS receives your H-1B petition. Confirm your work location is accurate on the LCA, since remote or multi-site roles require separate LCA filings per worksite.

Find Systems Engineer at Google JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Google sponsor H-1B visas for Systems Engineers?
Yes, Google sponsors H-1B visas for Systems Engineer roles. Google files H-1B petitions through the annual USCIS lottery, which opens in March for an October 1 start date. For roles that need to start before the next cap season, Google sometimes uses cap-exempt filings if the role qualifies, or explores H-1B1 and E-3 pathways for eligible candidates.
Which visa types does Google use for Systems Engineer roles?
Google sponsors H-1B visas for most international Systems Engineers, but also uses H-1B1 visas for Chilean and Singaporean nationals and E-3 visas for Australian citizens. These treaty visas avoid the H-1B lottery entirely and can be filed year-round, which makes them faster pathways for eligible candidates targeting a Systems Engineer position.
What qualifications does Google expect for Systems Engineer roles?
Google typically looks for a bachelor's degree or higher in computer science, electrical engineering, or a closely related technical field. For Systems Engineer roles specifically, hands-on experience with large-scale infrastructure, Linux systems administration, networking protocols, and reliability engineering practices carries significant weight alongside the formal degree credential.
How do I apply for Systems Engineer jobs at Google?
You can browse open Systems Engineer roles at Google filtered by visa sponsorship type on Migrate Mate. Once you identify a role, apply through Google's careers portal and flag your visa situation to your recruiting coordinator early. Google's hiring process for this role typically involves a recruiter screen, a technical phone interview, and a full onsite or virtual interview loop.
How do I time my job search around the H-1B cap season?
The H-1B cap registration window opens in March, with USCIS selecting registrations by lottery shortly after. To start on October 1, you need a job offer and completed I-129 filing before April. Targeting Google roles between November and February gives your recruiter enough runway to prepare the LCA and petition before the registration deadline.
