Align your credentials to Ford's EV priorities
Ford's engineering hiring has shifted heavily toward electrification and battery systems. If your degree or experience touches powertrain electrification, battery management, or EV software integration, lead with that in your resume and application materials.
Verify your degree meets specialty occupation standards
USCIS requires a direct nexus between your degree field and the specific engineering role. A mechanical engineering degree supporting a structural design role is clean. A general business degree for a systems engineering position creates H-1B petition risk, so position carefully.
Target Ford's Michigan-based engineering hubs first
Ford concentrates engineering headcount in Dearborn and surrounding Michigan facilities. Roles posted for these locations are more likely to sit within teams that have established sponsorship workflows, reducing delays caused by first-time approval processes at smaller regional sites.
Anticipate PERM timelines for permanent residency
If Ford sponsors your H-1B and you want a Green Card path, PERM labor certification through DOL can take 12 to 18 months before an I-140 petition even files. Ask about the employer's sponsorship policy for employment-based immigration during the offer negotiation stage.
Use Migrate Mate to filter Ford engineering roles by visa type
Not every Ford engineering posting is open to sponsored candidates. Filter by visa type on Migrate Mate to surface only the roles where sponsorship is confirmed, so you're applying to positions that are actually viable for your situation.
Time your F-1 OPT application to your target start date
USCIS requires OPT applications to be filed at least 90 days before your intended start date. If you're finishing an engineering degree and targeting Ford's summer or fall intake, file through your DSO early to avoid a gap that delays your offer acceptance.

Does Ford Motor Company sponsor H-1B visas for Engineers?
Yes, Ford Motor Company sponsors H-1B visas for Engineering roles. Ford is an established H-1B employer with a track record across disciplines including mechanical, electrical, software, and manufacturing engineering. Sponsorship is most common for roles requiring a specific technical degree field that meets USCIS's specialty occupation standard, so the alignment between your degree and the job description matters.
Which visa types are commonly used for Engineering roles at Ford Motor Company?
Ford sponsors multiple visa categories for Engineering positions, including H-1B, E-3 for Australian citizens, TN for Canadian and Mexican nationals under USMCA, and F-1 OPT and CPT for students in qualifying engineering programs. For candidates pursuing permanent residence, Ford also supports employment-based Green Card sponsorship through the EB-2 and EB-3 categories via PERM labor certification filed with the DOL.
What qualifications and experience does Ford Motor Company expect for sponsored Engineering roles?
Ford typically requires a bachelor's degree or higher in a relevant engineering discipline. For H-1B eligibility, the degree field must directly relate to the job duties under USCIS specialty occupation rules. Roles in electrification, autonomous systems, and advanced manufacturing often require demonstrated technical depth in those specific areas, with senior positions expecting several years of industry experience.
How do I apply for Engineering jobs at Ford Motor Company?
Browse open Engineering positions on Migrate Mate to find Ford roles that confirm visa sponsorship upfront. Apply through Ford's careers portal and tailor your resume to the specific engineering function. For sponsored roles, Ford's HR and immigration team manages the H-1B or other petition process after an offer is extended, so focus your application on demonstrating technical fit first.
How do I understand the timeline for getting an engineering role sponsored at Ford Motor Company?
The timeline depends on your visa type. H-1B petitions filed in the annual cap lottery have an October 1 start date, meaning offers made in early spring may not result in work authorization for six or more months. E-3 and TN visas process faster, often within weeks. F-1 OPT students should account for USCIS processing of up to 90 days when planning their start date.
