Align your resume to Qualcomm's engineering taxonomy
Qualcomm structures engineering roles around specific domains: modem software, camera, AI, and chipset design. Tailor your resume to mirror that language exactly, because automated screening filters applications against those internal job families before a recruiter ever reads them.
Target teams working on FCC-regulated products
Engineering roles tied to wireless and broadcast technology often sit at the intersection of U.S. media and entertainment standards. Roles on those teams tend to have clearer specialty occupation documentation, which strengthens an H-1B petition and reduces the risk of a USCIS Request for Evidence.
Clarify CPT and OPT authorization before your first interview
If you're on F-1 status, confirm whether your program qualifies for STEM OPT extension. Qualcomm's engineering hiring cycle often runs several months, and knowing your exact authorization window prevents gaps between offer acceptance and your start date.
Ask about the LCA filing timeline during the offer stage
Before your employer can file an H-1B petition, DOL must certify a Labor Condition Application, which typically takes seven business days. Confirm with Qualcomm's immigration team that the LCA is filed before you give notice to any current employer, so there's no gap in your status.
Browse open Engineering roles at Qualcomm on Migrate Mate
Filtering by visa type and role function saves time when you need sponsorship-confirmed positions. Migrate Mate lets you search Qualcomm's engineering openings and verify which visa categories the company actively supports for each role type.
Prepare a degree equivalency letter if your credential is from outside the U.S.
USCIS scrutinizes whether a foreign credential meets specialty occupation standards. Get a credential evaluation from a NACES-member organization before your petition is filed, particularly if your degree is a three-year bachelor's or from an institution USCIS is unfamiliar with.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Qualcomm sponsor H-1B visas for Engineers?
Yes, Qualcomm sponsors H-1B visas for engineering roles. The company files H-1B petitions across its core engineering functions, including hardware, software, and wireless systems. If you're selected in the annual H-1B lottery and receive an offer, Qualcomm's in-house immigration team handles the petition process. Roles tied to specialty domains like modem software or RF design tend to have well-documented specialty occupation justifications, which supports the petition.
Which visa types does Qualcomm commonly sponsor for Engineering roles?
Qualcomm sponsors a range of visa categories for engineering positions, including H-1B, H-1B1 visa for Chilean and Singaporean nationals, TN visa for Canadian and Mexican engineers, F-1 OPT and CPT for students, J-1 visa for exchange visitors, and employment-based Green Cards through the EB-2 and EB-3 preference categories. The right category depends on your nationality, degree level, and where you are in your career.
What qualifications does Qualcomm expect for Engineering positions?
Most engineering roles at Qualcomm require at minimum a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, computer science, or a closely related field. Roles in areas like modem firmware, camera ISP, or AI inference often prefer or require a master's degree or equivalent industry experience. For H-1B purposes, your degree must align directly with the duties of the specific role, not just engineering in general.
How do I apply for Engineering jobs at Qualcomm?
Start by browsing open engineering roles on Migrate Mate, where you can filter specifically for positions at Qualcomm that support your visa type. Once you identify a role, apply through Qualcomm's careers portal and tailor your application to the team's technology domain. Qualcomm's recruiting process typically includes a recruiter screen, technical interviews, and a hiring manager conversation before an offer is extended.
How do I plan my timeline if I need H-1B sponsorship for a Qualcomm engineering role?
The H-1B cap-subject filing window opens in March each year for an October 1 start date. If you're on F-1 OPT, your authorization window must bridge that gap. STEM OPT extension gives eligible graduates up to 24 additional months of work authorization, which can cover one or even two lottery cycles. Aligning your Qualcomm job search to start no later than January gives you enough runway to receive an offer, complete screening, and have your employer file before the registration deadline.
